Which Glock would be best for me?

I was (and still am) a Springfield guy once the first XD line appeared. Stayed that way for 20 years, until I shot my first Glock. My love for the 10mm drove me to try shooting every 10mm I could get my hands on. I carry both an XDS and a G29 regularly to this day.

What sold me on the G29 was the grouping when I shot at 7 yards, free-handed. It was about 1.6 inches and I was WAY more accurate than any pistol I had ever shot, except for a Les Baer Target Master.

However, I also had to buy the magazines that had the pinky extension, so I could fit all 3 lower fingers onto the handle of the gun (since I have ginormous hands).

Also, as I aged, I knew I wanted something small, but powerful and did not like the 45 ACP platform, because the size of that round limits how many rounds you can carry. G29 is 10+1 capacity and seemed to fill so many checkmarks for me, and Springfield didn't offer anything identical.

My like of certain guns changes over time as my weight changes, as I age, and my need for concealment changes, so I can't suggest anything definitive, but the G29 and XDS seem to fit a wide-enough span of needs that I haven't seen the need to add anything to the list in almost 10 years.
 
When I was doing regular pistol courses I got a lot of beginners and some folks who had moderate experience with handguns. Many had been afflicted with guns chosen for them by others. Part of my course was how to select a handgun for you. My criteria for a defensive handgun is that 1. It must be centerfire 2. It must fit your hand 3. You must be able to operate the controls safely 4. You must be able to hit the target.

Everyone is different. Hand size and strength are key factors. I would put out about 15-20 guns for students to handle. It was sometimes surprising to see which person settled on which handgun. But it is always a personal choice based on personal factors. Ergonomics seems to be a common deciding factor, which for many is where Glock falls short. To each their own but keep 'em in the middle.
 
Depends do you want a range gun or a slim line concealed carry? If you want to put optics on it MOS are the optics ready version and you will have to purchase an optics plate. Glock 19s are usually a go too for small hands Lenny at The Glock Store came out with a hybrid 43X frame that will take a double stack mag with a 19 MOS slide.

I had a young lady come through a course Saturday with a 43X with an optic. I must say it fit her well and she did very well with it. She had small hands I should add.

i had mentioned a very long time ago, that i bought a NIB Glock G-19, that a guy bought, and his wife bought a S&W EZ Slide 380. they bought those guns during the pandemic, and kept them in the closet, and never once fired them.

i dumped the S&W rather quickly, and kept the G-19 for a little longer.

frankly, the G-19 is a very popular carry gun for many members at the range.

not bad in recoil over say my S/A Hellcat...and the G-19 actually fits better in my hand, as the grip is longer than the Hellcat.

i too have small hands, and the G-19 is for me better.

but, i sold it...

its one of those guns that "i wish i still had"

and i do plan on buying a Gen 5, G-19, in the Blue Label, for the discount, and i think i will ditch the Hellcat.
 
At one time I had all these, as well as a G48X that had moved on (grip just felt too thin). They are now all gone as I’ve moved to all DA/SA and metal (with the exception of a Beretta PX4 Storm Compact - LTT version). Two are J-Frame sized revolvers, Kimber K6s, SW 432.

Of all those, the last one I had left was the G23.5 MOS, which I had an additional .357 Sig barrel for and both the Sig barrel and the .40 barrel were ported, along with a slide upgrade.

If I ever decided to buy plastic strikers again, and wanted a Glock (personally, I liked my Hellcat OSP with optic and compensator better than any of these Glocks), I’d likely lean towards the G23 again for the compact size and the .40 caliber. And that would only happen if I could still interchange a .357 Sig and 9mm barrel for the .40. I would probably forego the optic this time around - but that’s just because I have better optics on better guns.

The G23.5 with modified slide and ported barrels is not pictured. Well, it is, but before the work was done - #2 clockwise from top.

with tha backstrap options you still may not like the feel, but the angle and alignment from eye to sights might work for you? not knowing if you're looking for a full size or 19 and smaller leaves a lot on info you're seeking! i can only speak about full sized as that's all i've owned in every handgun i've purchased (4" m/p was listed/described as full sized). all are gen4 and fit my hands using the large backstraps (wouldn't consider my hands beng large, but do wear xl in gloves). if you like 45acp all of the full size in that cartridge holds 13 in the mag alone. i used a pierce extension ($20 or less) that adds 2=15 (i use the same for the 10 and it adds 3 for an 18 round mag). the pierce extensions barely can tell they're there.

He then pours himself at least two-fingers of his finest brown liquor in a hi-ball glass as he lights himself a cigar of fine Nicaraguan tobacco leaf rolled on the nubile thighs of a young virgin.

This is when the critical thinking is tested.

If...and I mean if I was to procure one, it would likely be a 9mm and it would have a 4 inch barrel, 4.5 max. Probably just for the range, but possible carry if I can conceal it without too much trouble. Sorry for not being clear.

You could just skip the glock and go straight to the m/p's! I know you like them! 4.25" and you're in the middle 🥳
