Which Hellcat Is Right for You?

IMG_0297.jpeg

My one and only Hellcat, it’s fine to me.

[ No , l don't own a Hellcat , but nothing against them . Would have been perfectly viable option . Trigger typical of class , good to have option of thumb safety , and like the OEM sights .

But experience with the OG Micro Nine , its refined cousin , and just now a G43 ( no X) . But my pontificating addresses the Micro guns as a class . ]

What do you consider the role of a Micro gun ?

* To Me * , it's a binary choice . Is it for normal cut pants pocket or ankle carry ? Then the over ridding criteria is Minimum possible size . Even if compromises shootability . The goal there is " good enough to be useful for intended purpose " .

Way back when with the OG Micro , my conclusion was that it could do at 15yds , what normal pistol could do at 25yds . ( Insert comparison of Airweight J frame vs K Frame equivalent) Aka , still useful for BUG / deep concealment , for a lot / many / most ? Situations.

In the gun world there was trend of " regular " pistols having sequentially smaller variations . Now it's flipped upside down with starting point of pretty much as small as semi practical, sequentially having larger and larger variants , with the kitchen sink hanging from them . Until the two trends overlap in the middle.

Is that a bad thing ? Nah , options are good . I just look in amusement, as everything reverts to essentially the same form factor , that is objectively and ergonomicly a sweet spot .

I have to confess, as a retired leo I am a glock guy, and have and still carry a glock 40s&w (g27) a lot of the time. However several years ago I bought my first hellcat and love it, i started carrying it a lot and love it. I liked it so much I bought another the osp version and added a red dot. I am still learning how to use the red dot as I have used irons the majority of my career and life. When springfield came out with the hellcat 380 I had to have one of them also, I bought one as soon as they were available, I had to order it from a gun shop several states away from my location as they wernt available locally to me. All the hellcats are wonderful and great weapons, as are the other weapons springfield produces, I have a number of the xd/xdm versions in 9mm, 40s&w, 45acp, and 10mm. I support springfield and their endeavors, and look forward to adding to my springfield collection

among the ones that i have owned that was like the 2 things about owning a boat..

best day of a boaters life buying it

best day of a boaters life selling it.

i liked the hellcat for its micro size.

i HATED the hellcat for (to me) its extreme snappiness....

reason why i'd hardly practice with it.

i sold it off at a low price, due to the gun store having so many new ones in stock

went with a G-19, and i can actually say...the BEST carry gun for me, MUCH low(er) snappiness, MORE controllable, as a result, i practice with it MUCH more than the "made in Hell cat"

i'd NOT recommend the hellcat.

None, never liked the grip, bought a M&P Shield, then the Performance Center Shield, then finally the Performance Center Shield Plus.
