Which Hellcat Is Right for You?

I’ll add this. If I had a little smaller hands I’d still have the hellcat pro. I did have the Glock 43X and I hated it (due to my fat hands). The HCP with the 17 round magazines were nice but the only downside is that I live in Illinois. I pawned it off to a friend that really wanted one. I’ll carry my G23.5 before I get anything smaller again (and that will probably be going bye bye in the near future).

I bought a Standard Hellcat 9mm shortly aftet their debut. The.only complaints I have are the usual: hard to rack and you need a LULA to save your thumbs. Otherwise, it's a really nice pistol. I have added a PRP trigger -- very nice.

I added a Veridian red laser to mine. My carry holster is an IWB Crossbreed Reckoning. I carry appendix. I'm not fat, so I can even carry under a tshirt in warmer weather with the short mag. No plans to get rid of it for any reason.

It's the nature of the class of Firearm . A just over 1 lb 9x19 is prioritized for " reasonably adaquate power " in very small size . Aka .380 size platform , but with a Real Ctg ( my bias showing ) .

Snappy is part of the inherent design trade offs .

The necessary goal is " sufficient control to meet intended purposes " , not pleasant for extended range sessions.

I agree with you 100%, Biggfoot44. Tradeoffs... It seems to be a generally forgotten fact among many gun owners that anything larger than a .22 LR will have tradeoffs based upon the intended purpose of the gun. If you wanna go to the range every week and fire 200-300 rounds (or perhaps even 100 rounds) from your Hellcat you might soon be swearing at it unless you are shooting severely-underpowered reloads.

I own handguns ranging from .22LR to .44 mag, and rifles from .22 through .308. They all have a purpose and the only ones I could shoot all day are the .22 (pistol and target) rifle and my super-nifty home-built target AR. (...although the Henry Big Boy X in .44 mag has a comp, but the rifle tames that round a lot.) Beyond that, we're not taking any of them out to pump the rounds through just for fun. We take them out to make sure we can use them effectively. Practice, not with friends for a fun day at the range. And when you stack 'em -- like if I take one of my .357s and .44 mags to shoot -- you will see that after about 50 or so rounds of either or both, you've been beaten up enough, assuming you are using quality, performance ammo as I do. It doesn't hurt and doesn't make me want to get rid of them. I understand I am shooting some heavy-duty handguns and that's it. Deal with it or don't.

BTW, I always wanted a .380 but have never bought one. I have a lady friend who has a SIG P238 she has had for maybe 10 years. I love that pistol, and it's one I can shoot for a lot longer at the range than a magnum or Hellcat 9mm.

I get your point , largely in congruence with * my * point . But the expansion into ( what's comfortable to shoot a whole buncha rounds in a day / session ) is a jump sideways , with still another set parameters and tradeoffs .

Standard pressure .38 Spl from medium frame or larger revolver is absolutely fun to shoot all day . Most people's trigger finger will get tired , before they notice recoil .

Standard pressure 9x19 , from a full size gun , is fun to shoot all day .

Mainstream mfg .44 Spl ammo ( or equivalent home loads ) from most any .44 mag revolver , subjectively feels like shooting .22 Shorts .

The difference , is the guns don't weigh Pound or less , or hide in a pair of speedos .

Pretty on target until the .44 which I'm sure is more than .22 shorts. Maybe which is like shooting standard pressure .38 from medium frame revolvers. Definitely less than anything magnum, but not basically nothing I suspect.
