Whos into SAAs?

PieterCoetzee

I went thru a SAA phase when I only carried a pair (sometimes 3) SAAs. Im not ready to go back, at least not entirely; but Ive got an urge for something like a Sheriffs Model with a Bisley grip to be worn crossdraw when carried with a normal self defense gun on my strong side.

Im thinking of something like this from Gary Reeder. Ideally Id want to be able to chamber 454 Casull; but my primary load would be 45 Colt

Depends on how literal you are on parameters.

How about a ( actually almost pair ) of Non Catalog Ruger Pre Sheriff in .45 Colt ?

【 3.5 inch Bbl , origonal ( large ) Vaquero frame , but with standard XR3 RED grip , regular hammer ) . This non catalog run has popular enough to induce Ruger to subsequently offer the now standard version .]

In cross draw, with ( something) on strong side .

* To Me * the Sheriff was the primary, and the other was essentially something reloadable .

Origonal size Vaquero is good for " Ruger Only " loads , so not pressed over .454 .

After liking the first one so much ( Blue / Case ) , l went back to that dealing to get the
44 version in the case . But l was too slow , so had to get a Stainless .45 .

Right now this is just a warm idea swirling around. Nothing is fixed, Back in my Doc Holilday period, I typically wore a 5 1/2 strong side but reverse draw (butt forward) and either a matching gun in a offside reverse draw OR a Sheriffs Model in a crossdraw worn closer to the center

Sometimes a 5 1/2 strong side and a Sheriffs in a period shoulder holster

If I was really feeling sporty in might be an Avenging Angle 1860 with a conversion cylinder

I even tried a custom Sheriffs (see the mystery pistol above) in a SOB holster

Remember your holster colour must match you belt and your belt should coordinate with your shoes. Please NO miss/match black/browns People notice....

Finally a fashion point I can agree on. Holster and belt must always match attire.

Im not opposed to a Birdshead grip. Ive got a few; but Ive got the vision of a Bisley in my head

This is Rugers Blackhawk Bisley, I like a Vaquero better (no need for adjustable sights) but I like the look of the unfluted cylinder.

this is my one and only SAA, Ruger Vaquero, in 45 Colt

i switched out the ugly black plastic stocks for Ruger factory emblem ones.

i got it used, and do not shoot it much, due to the cost of the new ammo

i can easily now reload my own, its just a matter of actually doing it.
