Why no gunsmithing thread ?

Yeah, I agree with @Old_Me. Not something we’d be down with.

What ya wanna know? Anything hy point i can help
I don't need any information on building I was just wondering why no specific spot for gunsmithing tips and tricks I've been building my own for a few years and lots of folk have questions that I'd like to help with that's one of the good things about forums learning and helping. Here's my Clark long slide I rebarreled my bullseye guns will this or a little better depending.

i think that would help.

just cuz "someone, did something", is not an indication of a professional doing the job properly

and no, i don't feel an "amature smithing thread" would be a good idea either.
Hum i'm a tad surprised on the reaction to the question there's a bunch of good bubba gunsmithing I consider myself one of them and like to help out with everything I learned over the years.

well, you may be good at being a "bubba gunsmith", but i'd personally prefer a certified smith myself.

what YOU consider, and WHAT is factual, are at the very least, 2 different things.

you can still lend a hand of support, but anyone taking your non-certified smithing help/advice, does so at thier own risk.

sorry buddy, but not sorry for my thoughts or opinions on this matter.

also, this website could get into a heap of trouble (lawsuits) for approving such no-certified advice, by letting it post here.....just sayin', the mods/admins would know for sure.

Tbh I started smithing because of the shoddy work and attitudes of the smiths in my neck of the woods. Also most won't share some of their tricks and tips with us bubba smiths.
Not to mention they take years to build your pistol and cost a small fortune I can build a pistol in a few weeks just as good for way less cost and the satisfaction of learning a skill it's all good I'm ok with not having a thread here.

Hi,

Why don't we have a gunsmithing thread here ?

I'd be happy to get your thoughts whenever I have questions about procedures I'm comfortable doing. I've replaced a few springs, installed a couple of optics, drifted a sight a little, and punched out a squib from a barrel. True gunsmithing requires a skillset that I have not acquired. I guess a little "shade tree" gunsmithing never hurt anybody. ;) But for really technical work I would bring it to the shop.

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

I think we do a pretty good job at answering each others questions about certain things we try here. I do agree with @OkiePewPew and @Old_Me that a specific thread might not be a good idea. Any questions I have had with issues I ran into with my guns, I have had answered here, either in an existing thread or a new one. If we can't resolve something here, we have been guided toward someone who can help directly.

I think it all comes down to liability issues, if someone comes on here and reads and does what a amateur gunsmith suggested and something goes array, they could come back to this forum and say they got the information here and in theory, Springfield could get into some kind of legal dispute, just my thoughts

While more pedestrian tweaks and upgrades are well covered between us, with explosions going off in my hand and mere feet from my face/head, I'll continue to trust one who is certified for the in-depth tasks. IMO.

That's ok personally I've had three times the professionals worked on my guns and all three times they screwed it up twice the safeties did not work so that tells me they didn't check. I even brought a lever gun in once to have it drilled and tapped and after a year and a drill spot on the barrel he calls me and says I can't do it what a **** show.
Way back when I took my rifle in to adjust the trigger on my new timney he said he couldn't get it down to 2.5 pounds and charged me 60 bucks I took the gun directly to timney and 10 minutes later wallah 2.5 pounds and the guy told me the gunsmith never adjusted the trigger I went back and told him I want my money back he did.
