Would you carry an Old (design) Gun?

Guys Im trying to keep this one lite, so no judgements or proclamations just fun gun talk

The modern handgun field has largely gone to polymer; but what about the steel (and aluminum) gun of yesteryear. Without a doubt Im a Glock guy and I have a few other modern favorites; but I still have love for several older models. I went through a SSA phase and a WW1/2 phase. For most of my military career I carried a 1911 (one with a WW1 date). I retired with a M9 and still love it. In my PD career I carried a couple SIGs and yes the Glock

Lately Ive been carrying a Walther P38K and a gunsmith made Man From U.N.C.L.E. version (K length barrel and special grips). I have a PPK for special occasions. Im certainly not opposed to the Detonics Combat Master (pre Colt Officer Model). I had a ASP Pistol, which I sadly sold and a S&W669. Heck Ive even got a C96 Broomhandle, although I havent carried yet

Today the plastic guns are lighter BUT theres something cool about the Classics.

I carry a 1911 in 10mm from time to time. Is a 1979 Ruger Super Blackhawk in 44mag old enough? I have no problem with the older guns but the new ones are a lot lighter and my old back doesn’t complain as much. I’ve probably have more metal inside me that most polymer guns. Just giving you a hard time. I enjoy most of your posts 😁.

I Love SAAs, my twist is more for the 1873s and Ruger Vaqueros; but I do see virtue in the Blackhawks. I havent "done" 10mm in 1911 yet; but I did try a CZ75 clone (Witness) in 10mm. Between the gun and two spare mags, it was a workout.

I think the docs got out most of the metal bits that were "loaned" to me

My Heavy Metal passion is SMGs.

I run a S&W Wheelguns a lot. I have several K frames and 686 .one of my favorite is a Model 64 bobbed hammer DAO effectively a NY-1

I had a witness in 10mm it only shot 2 foot low at 25 yards. I love the SAA did a lot of shooting in the 80’s in SASS matches. That was back in the early days of SASS. I drove 150 miles one way to shoot in some matches.

How old is old ? Simply pre plastic , or OLD ( design ) ?

Of course the usual swing out Revolvers . A Breaktop Hammerless Safety in .38S&W ( late production 20th Century) . Does pre catalog Vaquero get spiritual connection to SAA , or just to circa 1990 ?

My first 1911 was a late 1920's early A1 . Did my Argentine High Power get credit for the 1972 era Belgin that it cloned , or all the way to 1935 ?

Back when I liked shooting black powder I had an 1858 Remington Navy in .36 caliber. Navy Arms was the maker very accurate pistol. But after about 3 cylinders of shooting you had to take it apart and clean the cylinder pin or it would start seizing up.

I hadn't ever considered the fact that I probably have more metal in me than most polymer pistols. It's likely true, though. 😅
