OH, I can believe it. 1st. There is the natural reaction/unfounded belief "It can't be that bad". (oh, yes it can and it will feel worse when it's happening to you). Then there is the fact that the media, learned in "institutions of higher education" to downplay everything except western culture bad. History has been sanitized and erased and as a rule people are willing to believe what they are told instead of putting in the effort to learn for themselves. Plus "it will be different this time" (said every time and it never is") with the delusion of "It won't happen to me". Add in, He gon-na give ME free stuff and make everybody equal.
