XD 40, can't remove rear sights

Hi,

I have a XD 40 that I am trying to install night sights on. I was able to replace the front sights, but the factory rear sights will not budge. Anyone have any ideas? I went to 2 different gunsmith and they both used multiple pushers, one guy even tried freezing and then tried heating both methods didn't work.

I can't help the 1 I have is an xdm with adjustable rear sight. I don't own any other SA products.

XD rear sights notorious for being extremely difficult to remove due tight rear dovetail.

Autohammer, vise, * appropriately sized punch, and a light touch. Seriously, I have had to resort to this on occasion.

If you do not have the appropriate vise pads you can use some neoprene strips on either side of the slide. Make sure it is a minimum of 1/8 thickness. Or buy your smith an autohammer.

My Dad has 2 XD's in 10mm-he replaced both rear sights with a RDS plate-
He cut a groove crosswise into the sight until the pressure was relieved he then just pushed it out-

My XD-m slide was put into a vise with thick leather straps on both sides and tightened down. I then punched them out right to left. Tight, yes difficult, no
Put new sights in left to right no problem.
