XD-M ELITE 4.5″ OSP THREADED 9MM for Magazine Restricted States

Hi everyone,
I live in Maryland where we are restricted to 10 rnd Magazines. Actually the sale, purchase and manufacturing of more than 10 rnd magazines. No kidding its 100% legit to purchase a greater than 10 rnd magazine out of state and bring it back with you and use it within the state. But this does mean any firearm purchase or registration of regulated firearm (Handguns and Modern Military Looking Rifles) has to be equipped with 10 rnd magazines.

I'm interested in the XD-M ELITE 4.5″ OSP THREADED 9MM but can not find a model number for a version that comes with 10 rnd Magazines.

Does anyone know the model number? I can't even find 10 rnd magazines in accessories for XD-M Elite. I'm starting to wonder if Springfield Armory has just forgone selling their most popular models in 8 states and DC?

SA does list what you seek.

Just the free-state version.

BUT...

I'll bet one would ship to you with a 10 rd XDM mag since there is no difference between an Elite & non-Elite mags.

Thanks,
But I'm a little confused, I'm seeking the model number of the Version that would come with 10 rnd Magazines, the model number for the free-state version I already have, and won't do me any good if I try to purchase one online just for the Dealer to tell me they can NOT ship it to a state that only allows 10 rnd magazines.

And thanks for the 10 rnd magazine link, I did find that just after posting at an aftermarket site, didn't find it on the SA site. In my limited experience, the dealers aren't going to swap the magazines for me, its one thing to open the package and swap the magazines, but they are really reluctant to make deal that all the paper work with model numbers appears to be illegal, because the paper work says it comes with 22 rnd magazines.

I could ask my local gun shops if they can get one, maybe the distributors are privy to model numbers with 10 rnd magazines. One option would be discuss if they were willing to do an out of state transfer as long as it arrived with 10 rnd magazines, the idea being I owned it out of state and are now bringing it into the state, and I swap out the magazines out of state before shipping into state.

I've also seen the mag well might interfere with the 10 rnd magazine, but that looks easy enough to remove before shipping to MD.

I just visited the link... ....it clearly states....

Could it be the Magwell added to the XD-M Elite that can be removed and thus it works?
Yes. The magwell is removable. The pistol frame is almost identical to the XDM.

As I indicated & the link to the page indicates there is no 10 rd version therfore no model #.

Its my guess that if the pistol is sellable in your state it would come with a 10 rd mag and maybe the magwell would be off it, or it would just need to be removed.

Yes. The magwell is removable. The pistol frame is almost identical to the XDM.

The 20 rnd XDM Elite magazine says it will fit the stand XDM models.
The 19 rnd XDM magazine says it won't fit the Elite with the Magwell.

So yes, they must be the same form and shape and only length and magwell interference make the difference if there is one.

The 10 rnd XDM magazine says it won't fit the elite, and nothing about magwell, so either they left info out of there is a length difference that won't let it work at all.
My bad on my first reply. I should have said SA does not list what you seek.
Ahh, now it makes sense....

Thanks for the suggestions though....

Its my guess that if the pistol is sellable in your state it would come with a 10 rd mag and maybe the magwell would be off it, or it would just need to be removed.
I'll have to ask my local gun dealers and see if their distributors have a 10rnd version for them to buy. Springfield Armory shouldn't be keeping this a secret if they have 10 rnd versions, it makes this hard to consider their pistol amongst the competition while shopping.

I don't think I'll get anyone to swap mags before shipping to MD, I've been told they don't do this, and it makes sense when you consider all the paper work shows they broke the law, there is no model number for a custom 10 rnd magazine version, the paper work is still going to show a 22 rnd magazine version was shipped no matter what happened to be put in or taken out of the box.

I could look into purchasing out of state and then bringing it into the state and registering it, but that's a lot of effort and risk, that I wouldn't have to do with the competition.

I'll only expend so much effort to figure out how I can get an Springfield Armory XD-M Elite pistol in MD, before I just go with the FN 509 Tactical or the Sig P320-M17 and add the sites and threaded barrel later, they do sell them for the P320.

Whelp, found this thread in the Gear Board.

It appears the XD-M 10 rnd Magazine will fit and tested to function in the XD-M Elite if your remove the Magwell from the XD-M Elite.....

I still believe I can't purchase it in MD without a Model Number that is equipped with 10 rnd Magazines.

Can I purchase it out of state and then transfer it into MD with 10 rnd Magazines, I don't know, but logically it is possible, but I wouldn't be surprise if there is some interpretation of the law that if it doesn't have an OEM version with 10 rnd magazines it can't be brought into the state.

I checked with the largest Gun Shop in Maryland, other than our one Bass Pro Shop, a salesman there tells me they will remove the magazines out of the XD-M Elite OSP package and I can legally purchase it without magazines. I asked if they remove the magazines themselves or get their distributor to remove the magazines before shipping it into the state, out of curiosity, still awaiting that answer, but not to look a gift horse in the mouth, they told me they can get me the pistol and I can buy it. Of course its an hour and half drive from my home, but that is pretty common to get a popular pistol in a restricted state.

And to go back to my original post, the salesman actually suggested that I could drive over to Virginia and buy the 22 round magazines that they have to take out of the box. That is MD for you. AR-15's are totally banned, except if you chamber it in anything BUT 5.56 or if you have an extra 3 oz of metal on the barrel, then its perfectly legal. huh?

I have found in this state FFL's are very fearful of the State Authorities, I have seen the state authorities make some pretty unreasonable interpretations of the laws in the past to inconvenience firearm ownership. I have had FFL's tell me directly, they simply will not take the risk and do anything in a gray area what so ever. This may be behind my impression that an FFL simply will not order, carry or sell a firearm that comes OEM with larger than 10 round magazines in the box. The largest gun shop in the state probably has a Lawyers on staff ironing out gray areas for them.

My other idea might work, to purchase out of state and then transfer into the state without magazines, but both states I have family in, you have to be a state resident with a valid state ID with a valid state address on the ID, but no 7 day waiting period like MD. So I would have to get a family member to purchase it, then we would have to do a transfer from them to me through FFL's adding more cost on to the process. No, that is not a Straw Purchase, but it certainly could appear to be one to a casual observer.
