Yo Cretins

You’ve got some cool stuff😊. I’ve got my grandfather’s old straight razor but have never tried to shave with it- I’d butcher myself🙄. That was the ONLY razor he ever used. He was born in 1884 and passed away in 1956.

Straight razors need to be "Shave ready". I'm sure it feels sharp, but it's likely not. Not sharp enough anyway. It's normally about $25-$30 to have it honed by someone who actually knows what they are doing and is worth every penny. As far as shaving with a straight, you'll need to train yourself to shave with your off hand as well. Right hand shaves the left side of your face and left hand shaves the right side of your face. Go very slow at first obviously, but you'll get the hang of it. They say it takes 1000 shaves to be proficient with a straight. Look up a guy named Anthony Esposito " The Italian Stallion" on YouTube. His videos are very good.

Totally TMI
Back in the mid 80s while I was in the Army, I had a guy in my platoon who had no hair anywhere. And I mean anywhere. He had had some kind of disease or condition as a kid that caused all his hair to fall out. Including his eyebrows and eyelashes. We had a new company commander take over and he wanted to do a full-blown company dress uniform inspection of his new company. He tried to act like a tough guy when he came up to the bald guy in formation. Accused him of not being clean shaven for the inspection. And of course, this guy tells the C.O. that he had not shaved when asked if he had. The First Sgt. had some hurried whispers to the new C.O., and they quickly moved on down the line, while you could hear the whole platoon quietly snickering. The new C.O never lived that one down.
