BAD ADVERTISEMENT, SPRINGFIELD ARMORY

Indeed, a good regiment can be made that the cocked and locked 1911 is “the” safest pistol you can carry with one up the spout. You simply can’t set off a 1911 unless (1) the pistol is gripped properly, (2) the safety is moved to “off”, and (3) the trigger is pulled. Compare that to most of the modern striker guns where all you do is pull the trigger.. I’ll take cocked and locked every time.

BINGO!

Hi,

I don't believe I have welcomed you to the forum. Hey howdy hey! And thanks for joining us.

Have you seen the ad for Springfield Armory?. Now they promote appendix carry with a cocked gun. WTF ?.

Do you have a link to the ad? Was it a magazine, online, or email advertisement? Yes, "cocked and locked" is a safe way to carry lots of pistols. I've trained that way. Training is crucial.

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

I would still like to see this ad the op referee to.

The 1911 is a fine platform. When people get in trouble with a 1911 they “think” (from the go fast internet ferry) they have to flip the thumb safety off as it is not even clears from the holster (Tex “I just F ing **** myself guy)

But I will one up you as a DA revolver probably has a 1911 topped as even a poor grip in a surprise draw it’s not dependent on a grip after to get deactivated…

That said a 1911 even if one omits the thumb safety is safer than a certain striker fired handgun that’s in the news right now which is basically like carry of a series 70 911 with thumb safety off and grip safety deactivated

While some will take offense I believe whole heartedly this and Ernst Langdon stated on a Lee Weems Podcast (links below) about TDA vs Striker Fired.

The manufacturers have given the consumers exactly what they have asked for. That is high capacity, lighter guns that are way easy to shoot.

We went from a slicked up 10 pound DA revolver trigger or a glass like break of a 1911 with grip and manual safety to the Glock with a 5 pound break which we learned was not as forgiving with Glock leg (which different than the Sig 320 people were in fact the problem as they had their hand on the gun and this happened while either drawing or holstering. Nobody got Glock leg just sitting in the holster)

Then people started complaining about the 5 pound Glock trigger so a 3.5 pound was launched with their 34/35 line.

And then companies started making guns with fully cocked stiikers. While I do like the S&W M&P the difference between the M&P, Walther, HK VP9 , FN 599 and such is they have a safe action type of/trigger dingus or hinged tripper as well as a better firing pin block AND sear type of striker engagement.

The 320 has no trigger dingus and sear that is dependent on a couple small springs to keep in place. (David Bowie of Bowie Tactical a well respected M&P and Glock smith got pushback years ago for saying he’s never carry a 320 after he got inside one)

So to me so to me with the apparent parts failures and then going off a 320 is less safe than carrying or running a series 70 1911 with no manual thumb safety or grip safety engaged. And if you asked someone to run or carry a 1911 like that they would look at you (or should) that you are nuts.

While guns like the 320 shine on the USPSA stuff for a personal defense gun or as a duty gun where you take human beings into custody a hammer fired gun that requires a deliberate trigger pull has a lot of merit. Of course the ones that get offended nebwr have held humans at gun point or been in crisis situations with guns and weapons involved but they know about hit factor scoring and .18 split times!

Here is the YouTube as well as podcast link in the TDA bs Striker discussion)

All of us whipper snappers are carrying cocked, locked n crotched, daddy-o. You fudds in the NRA, always going on about automatic transmissions, rock n roll and double stacks. You’ll never get our generation with our Prodigy’s with red dots, filled to the brim with 9mm hollow points, stuffed in my pants 👖 like check out my impressive package.

I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a Springfield add promoting how to carry a firearm, but I’m pretty sure ANY striker fired gun, if carried AIWB, or otherwise, is being carried cocked (some fully, some partially). Well, unless it’s being carried unloaded and meant to be thrown like a brick in self-defense. I know I carry my Hellcat, G23 and G27 cocked when carrying them AIWB.

Respectfully, If it weren’t dangerous I wouldn’t carry it. Carrying a 1911 any other way than cocked and locked is unacceptable in my opinion. It would be like carrying another semi auto gun with an empty chamber. Im sure many of our WW2 paratroopers carried them cocked and locked and had no issues with them when landing. Action is always faster than reaction and chances are you won’t have enough time to cock the hammer or chamber a round before you become a chalk outline. But that’s my opinion and everyone has their own perspective.
