Coffee in the parking lot. I got a service upgrade today. There’s an existing 3/4” coated steel service I have to abandon and then install a 1” plastic service.
somebody is not measuring the pads correctlygotta get to the repair shop i use on occasion, to check my rear brakes.
not sure if i even need them, but at the dealership where my car is under warranty for 75,000 miles, most of the usual service work is done, so there will be NO issues, if a warranty issue arises....as i'll and they WILL have proof of dealer maintained service.
anyway, for those of you not knowing, the dealership tech, looks at all the brakes, then jots down on the repair order the % of brake material left.
one tech will say, 50% left, another will say 75%, and yet another will say 10%
never (to me) an accurate estimate.....which i why (at times) i miss being a wrench turner.
what i absolutely HATE is the amount of brake lining material, on rear disc brakes....
why so little material, compared to the front..???
i know, and you know, the front brakes do nearly ALL the stopping, but still, on average, our cars, trucks, suv's, will go thru 2 rear brake jobs, to only one front brake job.
back in my days, NO American car had rear disc brakes, save for a Vette.
it was the more "high end" foreign cars like Volvo, BMW, Mercedes, SAAB, Audi, and a few others....
thank God too, back then...?? i turned all those car owners down for service work...not even an oil change.......parts were hard to get, so you had to buy from a dealership.
hell even Toyota, Datsun, Mitsubishi had drum brakes back then.
well my car has nearly 40,000 miles now, and all city driving since i had retired, so naturally, more brake usage.
wifes car has even less miles than mine.
and yes, i do know i could take my car anywhere for its oil changes, but sometimes a dealer or the corporation will be hardasses and try to deny warranty repairs, even WITH paperwork to prove services were properly done.
i ain't about to put up with that crappola.

no, the dealership numbnuts are not measuring them correctly, they are on flat rate, and must work with-in xx number of minutes....unlike an hourly paid person that can actually take the time to check properly.somebody is not measuring the pads correctly
just as reference my 22 yr old grand daughter...heavy brake use driver
her fusion has a tad over 75k
i recently replaced her front pads as they were thin as paper
the rears were still so good that they were 1/32 less than the brand new pads
unless they are dragging or the pistons are not free to move that rear should be good for long time
Wow man, so sorry your wife is having to deal with this horrible cancer. My wife has been fighting her cancer for about 10 years. Thoughts and prayers headed your way.Tuesday had to drive north 100 miles for wife's follow-up cancer visit. 8 weeks ago now. Oral carcinoma. Removed her lower left jaw and replaced it with the tibia from her left leg. Removal of partial upper jaw and part of soft palate too. Getting old is for the birds. She doesn't drink or smoke. Had a cracked tooth that started it all.
I highly recommend it.House chores today but a P229 Legion keeps calling my name.
In retrospect wish I had gotten SAO on mine.
