I LUV's my 1911's and a day like today

now, if i can only shoot both my Beretta 92 FS's like this, I'd be dying a happy man.

Have barely shot in the last month due to what feels like constant travel. Got to the range today and decided to do a 2011 comparison. I took a Tisas Carry DS, Prodigy, Staccato C2 and Kimber 2K11. Sent the target out to about 12 yds and loaded each gun with five rounds each and cycled through them one after the other. I wanted to see how much any appreciable differences were between a range of 2011s that ranged from $700 - $2700. It’s worth mentioning that the Tisas has Wilson Combat internals and a Staccato trigger and has been polished and massaged (by me) while the Prodigy is for the most part stock, other than a Dawson toolless guide rod and a pretty substantial smoothing and polishing to the stock internals. The most noticeable immediate difference was the weight between the Tisas and the Staccato. The Tisas is all steel, while the Staccato has an aluminum frame. The Tisas is noticeably heavier. I shot 5 rounds at a time because it doesn’t give you any time to get used to any one trigger. The one that felt “noticeably better” in the hand was the 2K11. The Prodigy feels very slick. I felt fairly rusty, but as you can see with the pictures they all shot very similarly, although the 2K11 is chambered in .45 and certainly leaves a noticeable impression on a target. It was able to pick away bits around the edges with ease. For me, the take away is that a gun is a gun and if you do your part you can pretty much get very similar results with whatever you’re shooting. Obviously this is not a scientific test and wasn’t done at speed or under pressure, but honestly I don’t think that would change the results all that much.

Left to right: Tisas, Staccato, Prodigy, 2K11.

Your targets and your guns always look so pretty. I'm glad you showed us. So the Kimber took top honors today? Is that the most expensive?
