IR Shooting Causes Brain Injuries

Hi,

Here's an archive type page that should have the text and most of the pictures. There are some gaps so you'll have to scroll a bit to read it all.

Thank you for your indulgence,

Huh? 😬😬

all of the testing done by "the times" showed pressures well below the military upper limit of 4psi until they pulled out the 50 cal for testing. then the obvious happened... shooting a 50 barrett indoors blows the doors off the barn. i knew that was going to be the case because, well, it was in the ny times. the indoor range i go to has a backstop that can withstand 50 cal. i asked if anyone ever shot 50 cal there they said not a single person since they've been open.
yes, indoor shooting is louder and the concussion is greater so doubling up on ear pro and wearing muffs is strongly encouraged. but the article was just another attempt by the left leaning ny times to smear shooting.

As someone that has worked on indoor ranges (as well as ran teainjng in outdoor ranges with heavy volumes of firing)
The article isn’t wrong.
The issue (and hate NYT or not this article is an accurate piece of reporting) there’s a difference because most folks don’t moderate. They run practice sessions indoors just like outdoors running 2-3 or 400 eounds.

It is louder and we always recommended inner and outer hearing protection and I could feel the difference at the end of the day as I was more fatigued working indoor ranges than I ever do running full day training or qual courses on outdoor ranges. .

Like a lot of things just moderate your time indoors if you are more than a random cold weather weekend afternoon indoor shootwr as this probably ain’t about them!

That's what caused the writer to investigate and write the article.
From personal experience. I was more irritable and my lead count was hirer the coulle years I worked at an indoor range teaching or RSO stuff tjan it ever got on outdoor or even the indoor ranges at FLETC (FLETC required lead free though but they were large enough and had enough greasy air openings at the top it was the best of both worlds )

I toured the FLETC ranges when we first started sending our agents there for the Basic Investigator Course. It is an impressive facility.
