Ammunition Question

My good man, the post is from 2016.

After giving it some thought I'm going to go with my original answer. There are a whole bunch of SMEs who participate at pistol forum and I have not seen that there's any movement over there to take the list down.

I've told the story before but I specifically carry 124 grain Speer +P Golddots because Kathy Jackson, AKA The Cornered Cat recommended them to me specifically. She then directed me to Dr Robert's list and said that anything on it would work just fine.

That's good enough for me.

We all shoot what we shoot for different reasons. I do the Hornady critical duty because of a gentleman I know is a retired sheriff. Of course over time I watched Hornady podcast about the how they came to it and watched some YouTube’ers actually doing the test. After all that I’m sold.

Back on the Original Topic :

Yes , your pistol is perfectly fine ( safe ) with any SAAMI or CIP spec commercial ammunition [ Subject to the obligatory test everything in Your Gun , in Your Hands .]

With Bbl of 3.5 & shorter there might be factors of somewhat reduced velocity and/ or control ability. But with your 4.5in , that's moot .

9mm (9x19) has the "problem" of so many good to very good options of Defensive/ Duty ammunition, that analysis paralysis is easy to fall into. And there are multiple schools of design preferences, and debate about testing protocols .

I admit my bias , that l do not care for 147 . But they are certainly popular, and apparently the better ones don't totally suck .

My general preference is 124 . I have standardized on 124 HST , but freely observe the deciding factor was logistics. [ To my druthers] HST , Gold Dot , and the current branding of Ranger something something, are close enough in performance to not make any difference, and if l could have stacked deep one of the others at similar $ for 50rd boxes , l'd be equally confident.

I think we all are guilty of overthinking it.

I want something that'll go through a thick winter coat and a layer or two here in WV should the need occur.
Where do you people Live? I'm assuming WV stands for West Vladikavkaz. ;)8777777777777777777777777777777777777777l/ (thats what the cat thinks. he felt that his opinion mattered while I got another cup of coffee). We live in Maine and if you're not familiar with the weather it occasionally gets a bit brisk here. I know for a fact that .22lr will sail through the hair and hide of a moose. 9mm, 38spl, 380, etc. not penetrating winter clothing is way down on my list of concerns.
By all means now bring on the horror stories and outlying examples proving I'm wrong.:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:
