How is your 1911 set up?

Does anybody carry a "stock" 1911 anymore?

Changing the grips is easy. Did you make the leap to changing the sights? How'bout an extended safety? What about an ambidextrous safety? Arched or flat mainspring housing? Full length guide rod?

Ive pretty much always been a stock guy. Ive never seen a need for a full length guide and I dislike that it complicates disassembly but they seem necessary with the bushingless design.

Beavertail grip safeties are pretty much standard now

I do like the XS BIG Dot sights. They arent precise but they are fast and fast seems more important in a bad breath gunfight.

Is there a medium size or only slightly extended safety?

I kinda like the idea of an ambi safety but Im unsure

What else?

Most come oretty good out of the box. I had a Cokt Competition and a new (2022) SA Operator that has everythjng memory groove beavertail with slit for hammer decent grips decent sights on both (the Colt had fiber Iptics and despite internet fears they aren’t quite that fragile and a dot will have issues before a fiber optic rod will for us mere mortals because 99.99% of us aren’t repelling with it)

Even the Garrison is good to go and while some might just have to have a mag well eeh if you have to reload after 7-8 rounds hih have bigger issues tham saving .10 a second

With my aging eyes I have come to prefer Trijicon HD Night Sights with a big old notch in the rear and an orange basketball sized bead up front. But most recently I have been carrying a SA TRP AOS with a green dot optic. I just can't see those itty bitty iron sights on an old Government any more.

Were you dusted by volcanic ash? I didn't know they had volcanos in FL. lol

While I liked the Stock 9mm Ronin Operator when I first got it; changes to suit me were needed.

Went from this

Fairly quickly to this.

Then as time went by it became this. Current changes are Grips from Culina, Challis grip screw bushings. Kings tghin slot grip screws, a stainless recoil spring plug, a heavier Wolff recoil spring ( 11 lb) and a Wolff XP FP spring, a Wilson BP FP stop to minimize the slight clocking it had, Stoning sharp edges and touching and last, a trip back to Springfield to install a Wilson rear I supplied and a higher front so it would hit POA.

I don't change a lot. Just give me some decent sights. Most guns come with those these days.
I'm not real particular about safeties or beavertails. Whatever came on the gun is fine with me.
I like a long trigger. Again pretty common on most.
Non-aggressive grips. I don't work well with sharp checkering.
I hate a FLGR and will eliminate it.
For me the big thing is the MSH. Arched fits me perfectly, but it seems that just about every 1911 maker has gone to flat. Its a PITA to have to change out the MSH on just about every new 1911 I buy. 🤬

i might switch out uncomfortable grips, replace plastic MSH's (main spring housing's) for all metal, that's about it.

the only things i WILL change out on many other guns, that are plastic, are the recoil spring guide rods for all metal ones.

i have yet to switch out iron sights for optics.......that day may come.

" Stock " 1911 is meaningless term anymore.

A " GI Configuration " is a niche thing , primarily for Retro or historical interests.

" Stock " meaning as that particular model came from factory, is still highly variable .

I Can comment on what l Prefer.

Flat , Long , " anti hand bite " grip safety. Usable sights , larger than true G.I. , but not overly picky Thumb safety just a little wider than GI , but not extended . Not extended slide release . Not Ambi , unless you are actually Left Handed .

M1991 Colts pretty much check all the boxes for me . SA Loaded is pretty close , but l'd ideally ditch the Ambi and the long guide rod .

i just put pac grips on mine, since my fingers are freak show long and the pacs take up the space a bit

I know somebody makes or at least made a thin stippled piece for the front of the grip that was held in place by the grips. Does anybody still make that?

What Id really like is a piece with ONE finger groove,

This is the Safari Arms. The finger groove was part of the frame. Id love a slip in piece or a set of grips with just ONE
