1911 9mm magazines

I have only one 1911 in 9mm (Ronin) so my sample size is not large. The factory mags (from your pistol's manufacturer) are always a good bet. I have Mec-Gar and Promag but my favorite are my 10-round Chip McCormik mags (CM Products). Wilson Combat is another top notch manufacturer. Most 9mm 1911 mags will work in most 9mm 1911 pistols.

I tend to treat magazines as comsumable items. Sure, maintain it, keep it clean, maybe replace a spring or follower, etc, but when it starts misbehaving it gets replaced. For $15-$20 they're not worth fussing over much. Sure, some are more expensive but that usually means they will last longer before causing trouble.

What 1911 are we talking about?

Though I no longer have 9mm 1911s, I have owned and shot a lot a SW Pro Series 3” 1911, and a DW ECP 9mm, respectively 950 and 1365 rounds, mostly using Ed Brown magazines.

They have a program where you can send in other magazines and get them at a discount. I am getting ready to send in my Emissary and TRP magazines to have them replaced with Ed Brown magazines (these are .45s though).

I have never had any issues - feeding, extracting, stove piping, etc - with an Ed Brown magazine.

I see you posted the answer to my question just as I was hitting the "Reply" button. Thanks. Are you looking for 7-8-9-10 round magazines? Not that that really matters. There are several really good high end manufactures, as has been mentined (Ed Brown, Wilson Combat, etc), and a few good bang-for-your-buck makers (Mec-Gar, Promag, etc) so maybe you'd like to mix and match. Use the less expensive mags for training and the more expensive mags for carry or competition, depending on your budget.

OK, I'll shut up now. I'm really bored today. Where's my honey-do list? :LOL:

Mags have always been the weak point in the 1911 platform in 9 mm because of the shorter round. For decades I was in the "Nine Millimeter 1911? You mean a Browning Hi Power" camp. But then I shot a friends 9 mm 1911 and it was an eye opener. The 1911 trigger with a round very cheap to practice with, or perhaps when my trick elbow is acting up. So I tried all the "premium" mags MidwayUSA had and had great luck with all of them. Chip McCormick or Nighthawk would get my vote for carry since they don't stick out as far. The butt of the pistol is the hard part to hide, so everything I can do to make it shorter is to my advantage.

My personal favorite 10-round 9mm 1911 magazines are the Chip McCormick, either black or stainless. I use them in my .45 1911s too.

I think they're a great deal, especially when you can find them on sale.

My Mec-Gar and Promag work fine but the CMC are a little more robust without spending the $50 for other makes. I'm a bang-for-your-buck kind of guy. But I don't mind "buy once, cry once" when it's worth it. It's going to depend on your usage and budget. ;)

Ed Brown & Chip McCormick for me are GTG.

Have had issues with Wilson Combat's though. Weak & short-life springs
