Shots fired at correspondents dinner

Hi,

This video makes it look like the perp ran full bore through the metal detector and kept going.

I don't know, you'd think somebody would've knocked him down.

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

I've become my Father. News anchor "They said he had a LONG GUN, a handgun and knives on him" Me, screaming at the TV " It was a SHOTGUN, you moron!". Right after this happened, one of the journalists they were talking to made the comment "And they said they heard a silencer pop off". Me: "WTHF?!?!?! Are your people REALLY THAT STUPID?!?!?!" Holy crap! Merry Christmas! Where's the Tylenol?!

Yeah, they had their guard down for him to reach this level.

Has anyone ever heard a shot ring? They keep saying "when the shots rang out".
It's a "figure of speech" that's been commonly used for over 200 yrs.

The phrase "shots rang out" has been used to describe the sudden start of gunfire for over 250 years, with its roots in descriptions of the American Revolutionary War.
  • 18th Century Origins: The phrase is deeply tied to the opening engagement of the American Revolution on April 19, 1775, at Lexington and Concord. Historical accounts, reenactments, and historical analyses regularly state that as tension peaked between British troops and colonial militia, "a shot rang out" or "shots rang out".
That being said....

And that video is exactly why I don't feel safe being forcibly disarmed to enter an event becuase they have armed guards and metal detectors.
Now imagine that was several bad guys attempting to do harm. Imagine if those guys had any kind of training

It’s why I avoid crowds like that to begin with. I am no match for several trained bad guys implementing a planned assassination or mass shooting event, whether I’m armed or not, which I have no trouble admitting.

While I don’t fault anyone their right to possess/carry firearms for self protection, I’m not sure how a few dozen “carriers” drawing and shooting amongst a packed in crowd of 2600 would end. I choose not to ever find out.

I carry to protect myself and loved ones where my/our situational awareness may have been off and someone wanted to do us ill will. I prepared for home defense for the same reason. There are many variables I can control to ensure that safety.

I worked many protection details over the years and received a lot of training. From what I see in the video, the layered concentric rings of security at the event worked as they should have. He never got anywhere near the protectees.

You can never completely eliminate the threat in a free society where leaders are visible and in contact with the public. You would have to lock the principal in a bunker with no windows.

The problem I see here is the venue, a ballrom in a hotel that remains open for business with guests coming and going during the event. Another good reason for building the secure ballroom on White House grounds.

they released a pic of the guy in some sort of graduation thing from 2025

agree the video released showed him playing gazelle across the entrance area... everyone else sort of stupefied
one guy on news said if this nut had exploded or something then the 2nd wave enters and does the rest. yup

reported he was a guest in hotel
did he drive from CA or fly ? i missed the answer
good thing is he was captured. ....strange he was not killed

News just reported that the perps sister said he had purchased a shotgun, 2 handguns and stored them at his parents home.

Plus, somewhere he posted he just drove into the Hotels parking garage and took the elevator up to his room.

They're discussing why the majority of the leaders in the government where in one place vs. somethin more secure like the proposed "East Wing" project. And the place was crammed so tight it would have been very difficult to evacuate the place.

Did he say if he bought them in CA (or if that’s where parents are)? I ask because as I understand it he would have to have been planning a while to purchase that many firearms in CA. Isn’t it one at a time, you have to have permits, and one every 30 days?

Purchased them in CA, and traveled to DC via train with them. Lived with his parents in Florence, CA.

Apparently the agitators are starting to practice their marksmanship…

Authorities confirmed that Allen bought two handguns and a shotgun at Cap Tactical Firearms and stored them at his parents’ home. He regularly trained at a shooting range, the official said.

He was part of a group called “The Wide Awakes” and is believed to have attended a “No Kings” protest in California, where he attended college and worked as a teacher.”

Apparently, in order to go to the Men's Room one would have to go outside the metal-detectors but them come back thru them.

And apparently that Hotel venue is the only ball room option for 2,500+ attendee events in the whole of DC.

Another indication that the venue was inappropriate for the scale of the event, and more justification for the construction of the "new" East Wing Ball Room at the WH.

He traveled by train

Amtrak Connection bus services are not to be included in this service. The following policies are in effect:
