Can we have a little fun WHAT Would you pick?

Well this thread took a space ship into the future....

Not really a scenario for me. It would be a long march for the "social welfare" folks. The biggest threat to my little ole community is the city/suburb folks moving here, then informing us they know what's best for the 145 yr old habitat. One possible caveat might be a formal dance in the gun club.

I love the concept of a PCC but I just can't get past the fact that it is still a pistol caliber.

[ Pulling on my Retro Hat ]

Expand " Pistol Caliber Rifles " fully , to include Leverguns .

.44 Mag rifles are respectable brush guns in their own right , even if you don't have a companion handgun .

I have hunted with .357 levergun . The tricky thing with them , is finding projectiles with desired terminal performence at rifle velocity .

But yeah . They don't have detatchable 20 or 30 rd mags , or look tacticool .

Theres nothing wrong with a lever gun for self defense, especially if you live in a BLUE state that doesnt allow ARs etc. The Space Cowboy guns that surfaced a few years ago allow lights and lasers to be easily mounted. Some will want 30-30 or 45-70; but pistol calibers like 44 or 45LC are good and 38/357 allows even more ammo on board. A handgun in a matching cartridge can be beneficial; but really not necessary.

They certainly have the advantage of not looking as threatening to a jury, if that ever becomes an issue

So where does the title of “can we have a little fun” lead to you criticizing folks picks on a purely fabricated “why if” post.
Who cares if it’s beneficial, fantasyland, or a pulse laser rifle. You asked the question then criticized the same people’s posts on type of firearm

Woa brother. Where did you hear any criticism in my post? Im pretty sure everything I said was positive, Bigfoot even said "even if you don't have a companion handgun." I support the concept of a lever gun (again especially if you live where you cant own a semi)... I dont see any criticism, there was certainly none intended.

Why would I criticize? Im sure I own more then 10 lever guns, from an 1860 Henry to 1973s and 92s and a 336 Marlin. The run from 16" Trapper gun to a 24" with a Malcom scope. Plus a few Martinis. Theres a Henry 45LC loaded next to my bed and a couple of them are in the Space Cowboy configuration. Bro, I went through a Cowboy phase with SAAs and Lever guns as my carry guns

Lots of your responses in this thread you started to criticize their choice…
”nothing wrong with a lever gun”
-“think of PCCs as an extension of the SMG class. Just like SMGs there a place where they excel and places were they dont.”

They chose it. Who cares what it is or why they want it .. who cares if there is a place for it.. 🙄

Brother we must speak different English. NOTHING Ive said was meant as a critique. Regarding the PCC/SMG comment, remember it was MY choice. By saying they have Pros and Cons (excel and dont), I was merely stating facts AND the reason I chose that platform.

There IS nothing wrong with the lever gun (see above). Saying theres nothing wrong is a favorable response (at least in the English I was taught). Please dont read anything negative into my comments. I think Im quite able to point out flaws when I intend them.

Im really not seeing any criticism. Everyone is free to choose as they like, I even joked that the thread took a space ship into the future. Then showed the Starship trooper and Stargate guns. My apology if thats not fun. It was certainly meant to be fun

Can we now please return to the fun?

I started a long-winded response because I wanted to answer any and all questions and be done with it, plus I was waiting for sleep to come anyway.

Now I’m feeling sleepy and am ready to end it.
So cutting to the chase:

Steyr AUG with 1-4X scope.

We are in a subdivision with no long shots in any direction except one: Out back, across our backyard, and angling across a couple more backyards. This little gap is 150 yards or more.
That area takes up a relatively small arc in my 360 degree circle. Unfortunately, that is the direction of the most population, so I cannot brush that off as a small percentage event. I have to plan for worst case anyway.

So it’s gonna be a rifle or carbine of some sort.

I’m going with my Steyr AUG because:

It has plenty of “reach” in terms of power and accuracy for the scenario. It’s even plenty against armor unless someone has a Clint Eastwood AR500 plate dangling from their neck.

It is still short enough for close work.

Same for the 1-4X scope.

The factory 42-round mags work great, and match or exceed the capacity of most (non-drum) SMG mags, and come close to 98% of the drums.

Truthfully, if I knew riots were building close by, and we couldn’t GTFO ahead of time:
Carbines AND shotguns.
