I like data.You needed Ammoseek.........
I honestly like how .40 is right behind 10. Both calibers are fun to shoot.
That's odd. 165 and 180 gr 40S&W is the most popular, widely used, carried, and talked about. I'm not sure what articles you are referring to and where you've been looking.Seems like all the articles concerning 40 S&W show 140/180 round performance.
What does a 10mm do that 40s&w can't do when it comes to defensive against humans? If it comes to hunting with hardcast, where greater penetration is required, then I agree that 10mm is better than 40s&w in that respect. When it comes to conceal carry, size, weight, price of ammo, and defense against two legged predators, I don't see how 10mm is better other than it's the flavor of the month that's on the bandwagon that everyone suddenly wants to jump on. I'm genuinely curious because I don't think 10mm defensive ammo does anything at all better or is better at quick incapacitation of a human being in anyway, shape, or form than a 40s&w.40 is a middle weight, a compromise between a full power cartridge and a "Special".
I carried 40 as a service round, on, and off duty. I shot it in both IPSC and USPSA, from my duty gear, shooting duty equivalent FMJ ammo, and i shot more than our SRT(see SWAT) team.
Given the choice, and being unencumbered by department regulations, I'd pick 10mm over 40, but if I had no other choice, I wouldn't feel under armed carrying a 40.
But, that's just me......
They need to load that 165gr in 10mm. I'd buy it!
You could get some blistering fast rounds with 165gr in a 10mm SAAMI spec load. That’s what a .40 is for. I know the 10MM has a little more kick depending on who makes it with the 180 grain.

Grain weight of a bullet has nothing to do with "watering down." There are full-power 165gr loads.10MM is already watered down enough to .40 S&W. True 10MM is like the .357 of revolvers.
That's not what he was saying or at least how I read it. He was basically say that in general, most commercial 10mm is watered down.Grain weight of a bullet has nothing to do with "watering down." There are full-power 165gr loads.

Back in the Day , both .40 and 10mm were offered with full smorgasborg of 135 , 150/55 , 165 , 180 , and 200 gr options .
.40 options are now 180 , and 165 , with only a couple 155 options hanging on . [ The Biggfoot Endorsement is strongly on 165 .]
