Ayoob: 1911 — Outdated Hype and Nostalgia?

I have a couple 1911's. The one that grabs everyone's attention is my L.A.R. Grizzly. Unique gun, being that it was available in several interchangeable calibers. Standard caliber was .45 Winchester Magnum. It's a big oversized 1911 with a barrel that extends about an inch to an inch and a half ahead of the slide. Anyways I have a .45 ACP conversion kit for it, and was at an indoor range. One of my friends made the point of saying to me "Do you sleep with that gun". It was shooting very small groups with lead SWC's with a muzzle velocity around 750-800 fps. I was amused with every pull of the trigger, because the slide is so heavy, I could watch it recoil and go back into battery with the .45 ACP.
I had a chance to get one off a friend, .45 win mag and .357mag conversion kit, could agree on price

Massad keeps repeating the same 1911 articles over & over, like...

Patiently waiting for next weeks reiteration.

I read everything I see...never know when you might pick up something new. This felt like an AI article to me as it lacked Ayoob's usual personality. But in the end, I agree with everything he says. My dad is 86 years old and still can rack the slide without effort just by cocking it first. People carp endlessly about capacity...but frankly, in most situations you run out of time before you run out of bullets. Nine rounds of .45 ACP on tap is so many that I actually use a Wilson Combat 7 round magazine because they are so reliable! The Scandium Smith and Wesson Commander size gets the nod for carry. But range guns are Les Baer and Springfield Armory.

S&W 1911PD 45acp earlier model of the SC you have. Would not feed hollow points sent it off to Cylinder & Slide to throat and polish chamber, trigger job and short trigger. Purchased it in early 90's still shoots great.
