Ayoob: 1911 — Outdated Hype and Nostalgia?

I have a couple 1911's. The one that grabs everyone's attention is my L.A.R. Grizzly. Unique gun, being that it was available in several interchangeable calibers. Standard caliber was .45 Winchester Magnum. It's a big oversized 1911 with a barrel that extends about an inch to an inch and a half ahead of the slide. Anyways I have a .45 ACP conversion kit for it, and was at an indoor range. One of my friends made the point of saying to me "Do you sleep with that gun". It was shooting very small groups with lead SWC's with a muzzle velocity around 750-800 fps. I was amused with every pull of the trigger, because the slide is so heavy, I could watch it recoil and go back into battery with the .45 ACP.
I had a chance to get one off a friend, .45 win mag and .357mag conversion kit, could agree on price

Massad keeps repeating the same 1911 articles over & over, like...

Patiently waiting for next weeks reiteration.

I read everything I see...never know when you might pick up something new. This felt like an AI article to me as it lacked Ayoob's usual personality. But in the end, I agree with everything he says. My dad is 86 years old and still can rack the slide without effort just by cocking it first. People carp endlessly about capacity...but frankly, in most situations you run out of time before you run out of bullets. Nine rounds of .45 ACP on tap is so many that I actually use a Wilson Combat 7 round magazine because they are so reliable! The Scandium Smith and Wesson Commander size gets the nod for carry. But range guns are Les Baer and Springfield Armory.

S&W 1911PD 45acp earlier model of the SC you have. Would not feed hollow points sent it off to Cylinder & Slide to throat and polish chamber, trigger job and short trigger. Purchased it in early 90's still shoots great.

1911’s are great guns. Are they great for you????? Maybe maybe not.

For most earth people it’s just fine for a CCW weapon and while all the current rounds are effective wether 32 H&R to 9mm 38 or 45 if you put a round where it needs to go is all that matters and the BG will not tell a difference.

If you don’t care for 1911’s there are a ton of other choices so know yourself out!

Myself I like them and my son just bought his first. A Springfield Classic 4!1/4” TRP proud of him and a little envious at the same time with my Operator

I have a Springfield Ronin in 9mm full size and a Springfield Officer in 45 ACP full size. What is amazing is that my 2 oldest grandsons shoot the 45 better than the 9mm. My one grandson prefers the 45 over the 9mm.
Had to laugh seeing that. I have the same problem! Have a few 9's including an SA 35 and 1911. Can't shoot any of them as well as any of my (10) 1911s in .45!

I am still wondering if all the Ayoob haters can post then multiple successful training business they have created, and the articles or books they have written. I’d like to se the Relevance they have brought to the firearms industry!

Great song and brings back some memories of 30 years ago at Quantico for some training... As for Ayoob and although, don't agree with all your points or maybe I do, damn getting old, don't remember. Can't argue with this one, as it's reference to always learning.

His and others watching the changes in firearms/tactics and back again. If someone told me, I would be touting the virtues of a single action 1911 after all the others, I would have said, "Naw". Been through six shooters to metal 9mm and .45 in DA/SA, to half plastic .45s with larger capacity. Then there were the Shotguns, to Camp Rifles to Mini 14s to Colt M4s with optics, yeah good point...
