Dusted off an old Long Slide and took it to the Range and in front of the Challege Course, as the timer went off cleaned the five targets with the last a plate at 25 yards with iron sights with a clang in a bit over two seconds. The look on the young man's face a couple lanes down, priceless... Hell, I impressed myself for an old Boomer.

I'm a 1911 guy from way back. The first handgun I ever fired was an Army issue 1911A1. It felt so natural in my hand I qualified Expert. 😁
My primary carry for most of my adult life is a Colt LW Commander in .45acp. (y)
I currently own 20+ 1911s in various brands, sizes and calibers.
I just love the 1911!

This just some of them. I have more. ;)

Really nice collection.

Vocabulary is not my strong point but the nicest word I can think of for anyone who thinks the 1911 is nostalgia driven is "illogical". I am living proof at less than a handful of years with firearms. The 1911 is an utterly logical choice of firearm for several important segments of the market. Especially for CCW by those of us dealing with both a "concealment ledge" above and sticky-put parts below. Shooting ergonomics are one thing, but carry ergonomics are yet another and the 1911 excels at both. The shape of the 1911 that is great in the hand is also a shape that is great at 1:00 appendix; especially on the EMP 3" that no-one other than Springfield has mastered.

The minute you unhook your brain from something having to be different in order to be better, the modernized 1911/2011 with improved irons, optic options, front strap checkering and rail variants that all ride on that blessed 1911 trigger floats right to the top in my logic driven brain. I think the great irony is how the Sig P320 debacle brought us full circle to just how right Browning's trigger has been all along. But, I think the greater irony is that it's also Sig, that has now leap frogged everyone in the 1911 space with it's compensator variant GTO.

In the modern 1911/2011, we have great ergonomics for sighting, for safety. for grip, for accuracy and now for flat shooting. Nostalgia not included.

Happiness is a warm gun (bang, bang, shoot, shoot)
Happiness is a warm gun, momma (bang, bang, shoot, shoot)
When I hold you in my arms (ooh, oh, yeah)
And I feel my finger on your trigger (ooh, oh, yeah)
I know nobody can do me no harm (ooh, oh, yeah)
Because
Happiness is a warm gun, yes it is (bang, bang, shoot, shoot)
Happiness is a warm, yes it is, gun (happiness, bang, bang, shoot, shoot)
Well, don't you know that happiness is a warm gun momma?
(Happiness is a warm gun, yeah)

Hey, Bungalow Bill, what did you kill, Bungalow Bill? If looks could kill it would have been us instead of him..

Leap frogged? I think not. Jumped into the 2011 pond a little late. Bolt on compensators are nothing new. I find it ironic that Sig thinks that a comped 2011 with the ability to change grip panels is something new. The P211 GTO is a nice looking gun, and from the reviews I have seen, quite the shooter. Would like to have one myself.

Since i spent 20 years in IT Certain people come to me just about every year and ask if they should upgrade thier laptop/computer/cellphone is thier current one too old and out dated.

My answer is always the same. Having any problems with it? Does it still do everything that you need and want it to do? Battery life still decent?

If answers are no, yes, and yes I tell them I would probably wait unless you work in an industry that relies on the latest bells and whistles.

Newer latest gen things are not always an improvement.

If thy need a new I usually recommend waiting until the newest stuff starts really braking out then buying last years tech for a ton less money. Most people absolutely do not need the latest and grestest, plus the bugs are not worked out yet.

Same questions could be asked about firearms.

I couldn't buy a 1911 in 9mm, just can't, won't, just sacrilege as I wouldn't want to aggravate St. John as he built the Hi-Power for that...

So yeah, I bought a 2011 and it carries 19 in the box with one in the pipe in DLC finish and it is as slick as one can get. But damn they are proud of the mags, unless you get one of the new ones that use... I can't say it, oh this hurts, wait for it, Glock Mags.

There I said it, extremely smart marketing for the masses to lure them into great, great, grand papa's pistol. Even can get poly grips replacing the metal and G-10/wood grips, so not to hurt their hands...

I have a couple 1911's. The one that grabs everyone's attention is my L.A.R. Grizzly. Unique gun, being that it was available in several interchangeable calibers. Standard caliber was .45 Winchester Magnum. It's a big oversized 1911 with a barrel that extends about an inch to an inch and a half ahead of the slide. Anyways I have a .45 ACP conversion kit for it, and was at an indoor range. One of my friends made the point of saying to me "Do you sleep with that gun". It was shooting very small groups with lead SWC's with a muzzle velocity around 750-800 fps. I was amused with every pull of the trigger, because the slide is so heavy, I could watch it recoil and go back into battery with the .45 ACP.

Hello all, here is today's article posted on TheArmoryLife.com. It is titled “Ayoob: 1911 — Outdated Hype and Nostalgia?” and can be found at https://www.thearmorylife.com/ayoob-1911-outdated-hype-and-nostalgia/.

When I first set out to buy a handgun a friend recommended one to me. I unfortunately didn’t and went through several types of pistols… I finally ended up with a bi tone loaded compact… Since I have become a true fanboy of the 1911. My latest version is a new Operator AOS… Still debating on which optic to install on it… May add a 9 mm just to have one …
