BassCliff's G-Sight Laser Practice Range

Hi,

Thanks for your postings. Very interesting. Do you know if the G-Sight app will work with any laser cartridge, the Pink Rhino for example? Also, is white or grey targets better than cardboard? Or vice versa? I am getting a lot of undetected hits. Tried moving camera, different color targets etc. using iPhone 14. Not sure if this is the right place to ask these questions so please excuse me if not. Do you know of any forums specific to yhe G-Sight app? Thanks 👍

I don't mind trying to help.

As far as I know, the G-Sight laser app will work with with any laser cartridge. However I must admit that I have only used G-Sight products, three different models in 2 different calibers, .45 and 9mm.

I have had to experiment with lighting, distance, zoom settings, and color of the target. I've had better luck with lighter targets, white or light gray. I have a red B-27 silhouette and the detection rate is very low. The targets that work the best for me are mostly white with circles or grids. Early in the thread you may have red that my "dot torture drill" target with the red circles was having issues.

I have a very dark B-8 center and other very black targets that don't detect well. I think the laser light gets sucked up into the darkness, or it doesn't reflect enough. You don't want the targets too shiny or too soft. There's a balance.

There is a sometimes a balance that you have to find between the phone (sensor) distance and the zoom setting in the app. Try moving the phone closer and using less zoom, and vice versa. Make sure the target fills the screen on the phone. I generally have my phone within two or three feet of the target. A tripod comes in handy.

Try a little less lighting, indirect lighting on the target. Shining a light directly on the target seems to interfere with detection. If the ambient light is too bright it can upset the detection.

Make sure the laser lens itself is free of obstructions, dust, lint, etc. Perhaps a q-tip and a can of compressed air can help.

Weak batteries can also cause detection issues.

Hi,

That's a really neat practice unit. good shootin too.

Hey! Thanks! It's a pretty good system to keep most of the required motor skills fresh in your muscle memory. My live fire practice doesn't quite match the marksmanship of my laser practice, but it's getting closer all the time. ;)

Wow. Thanks for taking the time to comment. Very much appreciated 👍

Hey gang!

I hope you don't mind that I resurrect my old thread.

Wow! It's been a while since I've updated this thread. Perhaps I should practice in my basement laser range more often.

Ha! Sometimes I'll have a western on the TV for some distraction. I recently utilized my laser range after installing the Hex Wasp optic on my Echelon 4.5F Comp. You might've seen this in another thread.

I figured out which hardware to use and got it installed.

Then I did a rough zero on it, part of which utilized my G-Sight laser cartridge.

During this session I discovered that three out of four of my 9mm laser cartridges had dead batteries. And the included replacement batteries were dead too. Ack! So I did a little research and found a pretty good solution to replacing the teeny tiny LR626 batteries in these units. Each cartridge takes three of these batteries for a total of 4.5v.

I have four 9mm cartridges and two .45ACP cartridges, a mixture of the ELMS and Quantum XG models. The batteries I found are the Enerpe Power 3LR626 units, from Amazon. The "3" is for the bundle of three batteries together in a plastic film, properly polarized, and ready to drop in the cartridges.

Some reviewers said the plastic film made the bundles too big for their cartridge but they fit in all my G-Sight units just fine. Pressing on the back pad made for a bright red spot.

Then I tested the cartridges in my VP9 to make sure they operated properly when triggered. They all worked but one. It had a back pad that was too worn from the striker. This is one of the older back caps that do not allow replacement of the back pad.

The striker eventually wears a hole in the back pad and will not push enough to trigger the laser shot. Not to worry. I ordered a new back cap that comes with five or six replaceable back pads. Most of my other cartridges have this feature already. Between the batteries and the replaceable back pads, I can practice with these things forever. I just have to remember to practice.

I practice live fire once a week but I'm going to start practicing laser dry fire more often. It's cheap and convenient and should help improve my live fire marksmanship.

Earlier in the thread someone mentioned that the POI on the laser might not be the same as a bullet fired from the barrel. G-Sight addressed this issue. It's a very accurate laser cartridge. See the video below.

It's going to be very cold out for the next few days, negative temperatures. I guess it's a good time to stay home and practice with my laser. ;)

Hi,

I have the basic strkeman setup. Works pretty good.
Awesome hits there friend.

Thanks! I have a Strikeman too. Sometimes I use them together. The Strikeman will tell me how much I'm upsetting the muzzle when I pull the trigger while the G-Sight tells me how bad I miss. It's very handy. I'm able to practice at 10 yards in my basement, like on that last target. I need to utilize my practice tools more often. ;)

I started at the beginning not realizing it was a revived thread and saw a Bassbob contribution. Not gonna lie. I was pretty happy to see him back.

Other than the letdown, this was a great thread to revive. I've been wanting to set something similar up but I get all ADHD while trying to compare systems.

Yeah, I miss BassBob too. I'm gonna send him an email just to say "Hi".

There are cheaper laser cartridges but the G-Sight is not that much more expensive and is much higher quality. I'm thinking of buying one of their active sensor targets. You can hit those and not have to use a phone app.

They have a few different models, shoot-no shoot, draw timer, etc. They look like fun. Get a couple and set them up anywhere.
