I think it was Texaco you could send a postcard with your destinations and they would send you a trip ticket with the best route marked out. I think AAA did that also.
yup i have several AAA trip routing binders from early 90s
they were actually pretty darn good
coachnet used to do them up until a few years ago
very well made binder with pages you could write on with pencil and wipe off

When I was a little child, my father would use AAA trip ticks traveling from one military installation to another. In those days the so called highway system was only partially done so you ended up driving on some very slow 2 lane roads.
The trip ticks was a spiral bound booklet with the route done in highlighter and as you drive you flip the pages over to continue on the correct route to your destination.
