Didn’t know an M1 Carbine could be this accurate!

Carried an M-2 for a while in the Nam…traded a Polaroid camera for it from an ARVN. As an F.O. Marine Kt. I could get away with it. Never had a problem, compared to the M-16 I found. Cinched me on the carbine. Given a choice, it is what I would still carry!

I inherited an Underwood carbine. Shoots very nicely, but my best configuration is replacing the upper handguard with a picatinny rail handguard and mounting a red dot just in front of the receiver.
I’m surprised that they hold a zero so well with a hand guard Picatinny rail. Saw the Garand Thumb thing on that recently.

The Ultimak aluminum upper handguard clamps pretty tightly to the barrel. I really haven't shot enough over enough time to see how well it holds zero, but it is pretty good so far. downsized_0322001656.jpg

I always thought I wanted an M1 carbine, just never found the right one. Then dad passed on and left me his 'Universal'. But I made it a safe queen for a few years, and before I realized it I had included it in a bunch of guns I gave to my 'yard' son when the wife and I moved into the "institution" (retirement community), as I like to call it. Never fired one shot from it and likely never will. My 'yard' son and his family live in N Dakota, and when he/they do travel back and forth from there to here, they fly and it's a real PITA to fly with guns as we all know. Oh well, we live and learn. Don't misunderstand, he would bring it back if I asked him to, but it's destined to be his anyway when my time comes.

My first was a Universal, sold it and then ran across a Postal Meter one from 43 and it called to me. I bought it and use it around the property.

Carried an M2 '61-'65. Had to qualify as expert every six months, as well as with my 1911. No prob. Only time some of us had to go back to qualify was two weeks after we had gone to Harolds Club in Reno, stayed up all night and had a few drinks was when half of us would should at the others targets and they qualified as expert. The rest of us would go out and qualify on our own. Good times. The M2 was a good carbine, similar to my Gunsite Scout, except in action and caliber.
