Echelon 4.0C - Should I?

I think anyone can attest here that I am a huge fan of the Echelon. Many of the issues you have described were either early manufacturing issues or operator error. I will be honest and say that I wasn't a fan of the 4.0c, I just couldn't shoot it well, but the standard 4.0 is excellent. All of mine have been 100% reliable and I have thousands of rounds thru them. Regardless of my experience with the 4.0c, I highly recommend any of the Echelon line even the 4.0c, which may work better for you than it did for me.

I appreciate the info. I am looking forward to renting one tomorrow and see how I can shoot it. Thank you for the info.

USMC6095: welcome to the forum !
You’ll find a lot of knowledge here - my advice is Take what works for YOU and run with that :)

Reading your questions made me think, and I’ve got a few disparate thoughts to share, in no particular order:

1. When it comes to handguns - especially EDC/bedside - how the gun “fits” you (your hand, bringing it up to sight, etc) is second only to reliability in importance.
2. As others mentioned, if you’re uncertain about whether Echelon is a “fit” for you, go fire one before you drop ~$600. Never mind how good the deal is; deals come & go all the time especially for plastics.
3. EDC… ugh, a totally personal thing. My take:
- EDC means Self Defense.
- Self defense usually means close range (often, VERY close).
- Close range SD means speed could be critical.
- Speed generally isn’t enhanced with add-ons. It’s better enhanced with simplification.
Bottom line: carry the most reliable gun you handle well and don’t factor in gadgets like optics until you’ve figured out the right gun. If you don’t handle it well without the gadgets, don’t expect to with them.

4. Do you intend to carry more than a couple mags (one being in the gun, of course) ?? Just askin’ 😉.

5. Personally, that Operator (I assume .45 ?) would be my bedside. That’s just me though.

6. When it comes to plastics, I lean to the less expensive and I’m intrigued by the XD Mod 3, which felt better - to me - than the Echelon despite not having multiple grip modules or whatever.

I’ve said it before: guns and cars have a lot in common. All kinds of pros and cons to consider. They’re both an investment, and usually a depreciating asset unless you get rid of them quickly…

Good luck with your choices; maybe you’ll let us know what you go with, and why !

Hello. New to the forum. I bought my first Springfield a few months ago (Operator AOS 1911) and really enjoy it. I shoot it very well straight out of the box. I currently carry a Sig P365 as my EDC but I am quite intrigued by the Echelon 4.0C and I am considering purchasing one and working them side by side. One will end up being the nightstand gun and one will be the EDC at the end. I am hoping it shoots as well as the Operator for me. I have seen a couple videos discussing problems with the magazines. I have seen the slide lock back and during a mag change the top round nosedives for some reason and you get a failure to feed. I have also seen two videos with the baseplate falling off and spilling the rounds all over the ground. Also, in the videos the slide automatically releases during the mag change and other times the operator had to rack the slide manually. What exactly is the pistol designed to do?

Would appreciate if some of you will share your thoughts on the firearm and your confidence level of using it for an EDC.

I have the chance to get one of the gear packs with 5 mags and the red dot for $599. Seems worth it to me. What do you say?
Thanks in advance.

I really like mine! I bought mine thru GrabAGun.com at a very competitive price. Sounds like a similar pkg deal you’ve found. I always encourage people to shop around and found that GrabAGun is hard to beat often times.
