EGW Guide Rod for Prodigy

Bear103

Elite
So is there a trick to using the stock/OEM guide rod when reassembling or just spend the money and purchase the EGW that take the L shaped takedown tool? Also with the new revers plug sliding on the bottom of the barrel, and change in accuracy?

Yeah no issues with disassembly just hate fussing with the spring when putting her back together. That’s why I was curious about the EGW. I’m tired of loosing gun money to the curse jar dealing with the spring
That’s how I feel when I try and put the Kimber Micro 9 recoil spring and guide rod back in, need 3 freakin hands….😬

Get the Dawson Precision tool-less guide rod. The OEM GR sucks.

I have the EGW kits. They are not “toolless”, rather they use a small Allen wrench to hold the spring in tension. Some people use paper clips (same diameter).
Much easier to field strip with this guide rod kit than the stock guide rod setup. Shoots well too.

Dawson tooless is the way to go, wish they had it in DLC finish. I have the EGW with keyed reverse plug, mine contacted barrel more than cared for, was removing black coating where barrel was dragging on keyed section of plug. Key on reverse plug has razor sharp edges as well. The Bull Barrel is fit quite well to frame and did not want to change that relationship by adding pressure that the keyed flgr was producing. Hope this helps.

That was what I was curious about

Atlas has a tool less option as well, I think it is available in a black or DLC finish. Do not have experience with it. The Dawson Precision has been proven to be reliable. I would stay away from the "keyed" reverse plug unless you have the knowledge or, are willing to pay to have it properly fit to barrel and slide.

Can I use the stock reverse plug instead of the keyed but change the guide rod?

Maybe, I am not sure what the I.D. of the factory plug is. Get the Dawson and forget about it, just push rod foward and pinch the lever, captured until you release it.

5000 + rounds fired through Prodigy with ZERO issues, same system that came factory installed in my Staccato XL and XC.
Staccato XL over 6000 rounds zero issues
Staccato Xc over 8000 rounds zero issues

19000 rounds total over two years, not one issue with Dawson tool less guide rod.

You can buy a reverse plug from 10-8 and use a standard guide rod and spring. It’s pretty nice looking. I switch between that and the Dawson tool less guide rod, depending on what mood I’m in!

Easily over 5K through my old prodigy with the Dawson toolless.
Sold to a friend, probably north of 7K by now, zero issues.
I put a fresh recoil spring in when I sold it, just because…

I’d take the Dawson over the EGW any day of the week. EGW makes outstanding gear… but the Dawson it true magic here. Similar to my Staccato P in function.
