HS-Custom Garrison 4.25″ 9mm

Always enjoy reading Roy’s articles.

My dirst Springfield was a milsoec model I bought used in 1993 and it was super accurate and Fed everythjng. I often joked I could have loaded white rocks in it and it would have shot.

I wasn’t allowed a 1911 at my first police job after moving back home so I made the mistake of selling it for anDig 320 45. One of my regrets.

I corrected that in 2022, Between my Son and I we own 3 Springfield’s. I have an Operator 45 (2022) and he has 2 45 cal a 5” Blued Garrison and a 4 1/4” TRP Classic.

A 4 1/4” Blued Garrison in 9mm is on my want list. I will probably throw some wrap around Pachmyr grips on it, mad well and be good to go!

I just spent all my money on a TRP "carry". I am very happy with it. An excellent shooter.
I will have to save my pennies for a while to even start contemplating anything like this custom garrison. Then there is my wife... who sees a safe full of toys and she can't quite come to terms with "just one more"... and "just one more" the time before that... and "just one more" the time before that one. Guess I need to find a way to make this seem like "Oh! We need this".

If a guy could only have one pistol...this might be it except for the caliber. Along with a 22 Rimfire Marvel Conversion Kit. I am on a minimalist kick lately fueled by a friend of mines son. But a Garrison in .45 acp might well indeed be that one answer.

Some very good points in the article. I do like customization of firearms and will be doing it on the XDm I just got. After that who knows, I might just go the 1911 route again.

It is good to see someone who's first suggestion is NOT to get rid of all the MIM.

to quote from the article.
“I build more guns on ‘Springers’ than any other. I enjoy doing it because the specs are always spot-on with no surprises. Aftermarket parts are easy to fit, and I usually never need to change the basic action parts, barrel or other parts. It all depends on what the customer is looking for.”

So, I got with Dusty and asked him what he would do to a personal Garrison if he were to add some custom touches.

“It honestly doesn’t need anything changed; it’s already a solid pistol,” he told me. “But, if I were having some fun and just because I like to do the work, I might do a white ball inset front sight, Chen rear, a double arrow slide top pattern, Evolution Gun Works gunsmith-fit bushing and extended smooth recoil spring plug to start things off."
