J Frame? Well....

Grownups should dress like grownups , and not skin tight spandex bicycle shorts .
(y) 👏 (y) 👏 (y) 👏 And when you hit 50 knock off the pink hair and nose rings!
OP is right . A 2in RB K Frame , with Magna or Boot F is at least as easy to conceal on the belt as a J Frame w/ oversize grips . Been there both ways .
That is probably true, BUT
"638 with bigger grips (Pachmayr compacs) because it fits my hand better than any of the many guns I've owned over a lifetime of shooting and carrying. Hits where I point it, point not aim."
I'll take what fits and hit where I point it over something I have to fiddle with every day of the week and twice on Sunday. YMMV and that's cool by me. All I ask is the same in return. Don't be telling me that I'm not serious, don't care about defending myself or loved ones, guaranteed to die, etc.
No Sir you have not done that. Kind of nice having a conversation with differing opinions and someone not losing their bleeping cookies. Almost forgot what that's like. (y)(y)(y)

Yeah, sadly that one doesn't hold a candle to yours for looks. And no comp or port or whatever this week's terminology is for me. It would have to be identical. But I'm after more capacity within an 8" OAL limitation. The 627PC, 686+ and 629DLX being the S&W contenders and SRH Alaskan and GP100 being Ruger's entrants in the competition. Granted, the 629 and SRH technically aren't more capacity being six, like my SP101, but the size of the .44 offsets the same round count.

No thank you .

If you're so inclined a Mountain Gun is a cpl oz , and more importantly different balance in the hand .

But if you're going to carry something that Size , and it's implied that you want .44 mag on purpose , commit to carrying a proper steel .44 mag , that's actually usable with " normal full power " ammo .

[ If you vusualize it as being a sturdy .44 Spl , disregard .]
Only reason I even mentioned 329 is because he’s talking “pocket carry”🙄. I cannot conceive of pocket carrying any full weight full size revolver. 329 is light (‘course it kills on both ends but hey ya glottal pay to play). I’ve shot one with .44 Specials and have no desire to touch off a magnum in one😏

Cool ! That's certainly a Finite set of parameters. Albeit quite different from mine as a long time Revolver Guy .

I don't obsess over capacity , and cylinder width , grip size , and overall frame size are also factors at least on par with OAL .

Yes, but those will fit in the carry pocket. Anything over 8"OAL would limit the flap closing. So OAL gets the nod in my case. The S&W 629DLX is a strong suspect and according to the S&W website is 6.83" OAL which is wrong I'm certain. According to Genitron.com in their extensive database it is 8" OAL. HandgunHero.com says it is 8.1" OAL and Gallery of Guns says it is 8.625" OAL. I tend to believe the 8" as the accurate figure for that weapon class.

Gents, as it happens I have a Smith and Wesson PD329. And it is so light it feels like a toy. Notice the concealment grips; I have carried this inside the waistband in a proper holster. With .44 Special Full Wadcutters. It is pictured with a S&W Model 38 more commonly known as the Bodyguard. A classic J-Frame designed for pocket carry but it does allow for single action shooting as desired. Now, I am not privy to your sartorial decisions, thankfully, but I cannot imagine hiding an N Frame Smith and Wesson in a pocket unless one wears a generously cut Zoot Suit. Or perhaps if your nine to five job is "Rodeo Clown" which would not only make pocket carry of an N Frame possible, but actually recommended.

Just noticed the rust on the grip screw of the J-Frame. Diligence is required in maintaining all carry guns, they are exposed to a lot of sweat and humidity. Looks like today is a vault rust check day!

Odd looking and the best of any J frames available. I have the SS version. It's one of the never going anywhere list. Just ordered the 1774 GP100 a few hours ago. Not a J frame but another awfully nice smallish revolver. Congrats on your new adoptee. It's a nice one.

Agreed. Despite my preference for the three inch BBL for its ballistic advantage and vastly better sights, if I could only have one J Frame it would be the ugliest sidearm I own, the Bodyguard pictured above. It is the gun I carry when I cannot carry a gun.

It was embarrassing to have that picture up showing my neglect to my Interweb compadres, but it was an important reminder to the community that rust, like politicians, never sleeps during its sworn quest of destroying all firearms!

Of course, if you need the short barrel of the two inch J Frame and can afford just a wee bit more bulk, an old style Colt is your answer. Wide sights on the pre-1973 models in Detective Special (all steel) Cobra (alloy frame) and Agent (alloy frame, shorter grip) The best pocket carry revolvers ever built, because of the sights.
