LGS manager says…hold off on SA-35

There have been several new owner/operators here that have reported the "issue" as well as some others, elsewhere on the net.

IMO SA needs to double-check their QC and manufacturing procedures on the SA-35.

The BHP isn't your average "cookie-cutter" pistol that you can crank out without some extra care on how it's put together.

Having been a BHP owner/operator since the mid-80's I'll pass on the SA-35 right now. We'll see how the EAA Girsan MC P35 evaluation turns out.

I totally understand that, and I appreciate you posting these, but what I was saying is it just the one gun they did this to, was this just a fluke gun….or is there a real problem, that’s all I was saying, wasn’t doubting the series that described this situation,
Funny thing is every single problem, that company sells the solutions.

I have an early early one, and clean the carbon from under the extractor and never had any issues. We have sold 5 others and none of those customers have had issues….but maybe they should watch the videos and figure out they are wrong.

looks awful dirty, maybe just cleaning would help…..but what do I know.

Yep, seems pretty suspicious to me also that they already have a solution for every problem they found!

BHSS are Browning High Power specialists (they also work on 1911s) so that's their business in making upgraded parts, custom guns & gunsmithing services.

BHSS is no different than any other gunsmithing/aftermarket firearms business that work on other platforms, just like "XDMan" does with his services and the aftermarket parts that he uses/recommends.

For those that take the time you'll learn alot about BHPs if you watch these SA-35 evaluation reports, and check out the BHSS Hi-Power University section on their website, where they go into alot of detail on the history and functionality of the BHP.

For those that are BHP fans the info & products BHSS provides is a valuable resource in upgrading, maintaining & using the platform. As a long-time BHP owner/operator I'm glad they provide this info, compared to other businesses that offer BHP gunsmithing/parts service that just list work/parts & a price.

If you're not really intersted in how the BHP platform "should" work & be properly set-up then that's your decision.

BHSS did the same evaluation of the Tisas version that came out a few years ago & discovered many "issues" with that BHP version, and are now evauating the Girsan MC P35 that was just released.

Hopefully, the SA-35 evaluation will/have helped SA adjust their production of the SA-35.

Some folks say they wait a year for an auto maker to get all the bugs out of a new model vehicle, so I don't see anything different with the new BHP SA-35 varient, (the first BHP ever made in the USA), and SA that apparently re-enginnered their version from scratch.

When Colt introduced the new redesigned Cobras there was a rush to compare them to the older blued model. And like with the SA35 many folks decided to sit on the fence in case bugs appeared that needed to be remedied. An overload of contradictory information is what almost all new firearms face online and in the gun rags. It seems that for every writer that likes it there's another that doesn't. It's hard to distinguish facts from opinions and leaves us gun owners with a massive case of cognitive dissonance when it comes time to put our money on the LGS counter. I'll jump on the first SA35 I can find at a reasonable price and won't worry about these issues because I probably won't shoot it enough for manufacturing defects to manifest themselves. Based on personal experience, I've bought many nice older S & W 's and Colts from estates that are still like new in their original boxes and have probably had less than a couple of 100 rounds put through them. They look good so they must be. Conversely, if I'm contemplating a purchase from the used gun section at the LGS I always wonder if I'm buying someone else's problem, and in the back of my mind is that nagging question: I wonder how the folks at GUN TESTS rated this model? I think that's just the nature of our hobby! :)

If I saw one at my LGS I’d pick it up without hesitation. $699. That’s barely more than the new CSX. Where’s the risk, that I send it back to SA and have them repair it under warranty? Ok. I don’t have any reason to suspect that the gun is going to fail. I really hate when we base our level of expectations on reports from people who we know nothing about and who we don’t know how they treat their guns. I suspect a great many people shoot the snot out of their guns without much regard for care and maintenance. Like you good folks, I am not that guy and I can’t name a single gun that I own or have owned that was mechanically problematic. Including both of my TX22s which if you read the Taurus forums or Facebook is a complete pos that’s not worth buying. Meanwhile I have thousands of rounds through both of mine without a single issue. Am I just luck? I don’t think so.

The difference, is that I accessorize, adding night sights is different than saying basically everything about a pistol sucks, but don’t worry I can sell you the parts that will make it work. And before you say that I never criticize anything…..remember I was the very first person to mention the Hellcat trigger binding. Because as a reviewer I actually used the damn thing, then got others to also use it on release date with different size hands. Instead of being first, I would rather be complete. Even though it did not happen with me, I reported it happened with others. I dont tell you in any of my reporting that I am the solution to all of your problems thats the difference. This whole situation reminds me of the famous youtube reviewer who got caught reviewing the Hellion, then decided to sell it for 4k on GB. On the description he admitted he barely used it. So who can you really trust? Look you may not know my history, but I do have a long line of history calling companies out when something is wrong. All I have is my word, and once I lie all credibility is lost. But you can not tell me you actually believe that the SA35 is so bad and such a dumpster fire that only like 5 parts out of the whole gun are ok to use (that was the reviewers findings). There are now literally thousands of P35’s out there and only a few have had issues, and it certainly could be as simple as cleaning or just trying different ammo. Reminds me of another famous Youtuber who declared the Saint sucked because it kept jamming. Then switched mags and ammo and it ran like a top after just 2 seconds earlier jamming every round. But to prove the point he said I don’t care I want this gun to use this ammo, and the gun jammed again declaring all of the Saints suck. So are the p35’s really that bad?

I don't know why you're taking things so personal, since nothing I said was directed to you.

In my reply to Bear007 comment that..."Yep, seems pretty suspicious to me also that they already have a solution for every problem they found!" I only mentioned you as a fellow firearms business owner that would point out any issues with an item as BHSS has done with the example they evaluated.

I never said the SA-35 was a dumpster fire nor a POS, so I hope you can put things in better perspective and not accuse me of things I never said/did.

I agree with you. It's pretty simple. If one profits from one's review of any product, one shouldn't be the reviewer of said product, especially if one's reviews consistently leads to one profitting. That's not a review, it's marketing one's product.

I'm guessing the SA-35 is fine. Besides, everyone can't wait to buy it or any other new gun model. Otherwise, no new gun models would ever come to market.

If I had the money I'd probably have a new SA-35 in the box with a new Hellion. 🤣 Still can't believe I didn't win the Hellion last Friday! 🙄
