New here~ Just got an Operator!

Hi folks!

I just picked up my first Springfield Armory weapon this month, and it happens to be an Operator 1911,. It's always been a goal of mine to have a nice 1911 of my own, and I used to lust after the TRP and Professional 1911. Given I don't have the deep pockets for a Pro, I was really pleased when SA reissued the Operator with classic features. Really looking forward to putting break in rounds through it at the range (and yes, I'm a weirdo and it's my daily carry).

Nice looking 1911 and welcome to the forum from Kentucky.

Nice!!! I am in the same boat picked up my operator last Wednesday and finally got it out. Didn’t have much time to shoot but went through 80 rounds of a mix bag federal, blazer, and S&B 230 grain ball ammo. No issues shot amazing. Also went through a couple mag of 230 grain ammo inc hallow points, no issues. Easily my favorite gun. I had the 2 mec-gar mags and 3 Wilson combat 47D mags.

Yeah, I'm planning on picking up a few of the WC mags, too. Figured, why not, they're good mags and will only add to the reliability. I ordered a big box of Remington UMC 230 hardball the other day and I'll probably pick up a couple of boxes of Blazer or Federal Syntech range ammo at my local shop/range next time I go. Planning to carry Gold Dot JHPs with it for my daily.

Yeah I probably need to broaden my horizons on JHP rounds and try different loads. All I have is 230 grain, I bout the ammo inc because it was cheap at the time so figured why not and it has been working in all my 45’s. Mainly use hornady 230 grain xtp though, looks like I will be taking a deep dive into the JHP tests and see if I can’t find something I think suites me best.

If you want to stay in the Hornaday family, check out their Critical Duty and Critical Defense JHP loads. They're pretty popular (along with Federal HST and Speer Gold Dot) with LEOs and they review very well in ballistic tests for barrier blindness and proper penetration without over-penetration.
