On The Road……..

So we made it to Texas.
IMG_5020.jpeg

I did finally get my BMPro RV control Tablet rebooted and working fine now unfortunately I do have a dead leveling jack on the rear passenger side that will need to be addressed by a Jayco dealer under warranty. Luckily it died in the raised position.
We are just about 200 miles from San Antonio for the stop so my lady can visit with one of her daughters and granddaughters and unload her truck and a couple things of hers from the RV into a storage unit.
I definitely need to take some weight out of the RV so I’ll be getting rid of some more stuff.
My F250 is pulling the RV just fine but does struggle on some hills.
We stopped at an RV park again last night, $45 with full hook up, great price and I slept great.
My cat Tigger is enjoying the camper…….

But she doesn’t like riding in the truck.
After today My lady and I discussed our next step and she’ll be heading to Eagle Pass and then Mexico to visit with her mom probably for about a week and I’ll be going to Corpus Christi to camp hopefully on or very near the beach on the Gulf of Mexico.

I do want to add before leaving Kentucky I picked up an
(America The Beautiful) “senior pass” it’s a lifetime pass for $80 that will get me into most National Park Forest campgrounds for 50% off and some are free depending on the availability of electric and water.

I figured out this will pay for itself in 2/3 camping trips to all/most federal recreational parks that I can fit my RV in. Some places were/are designed for just tent camping.

These two pictures the dinette and recliners that are built into the slide out.

The fireplace…..

It’s electric but puts out great heat when the camper is plugged into 50amp service.

Entertainment CTR but that’s not all…

Refrigerator, stove/oven and kitchen area and in background stairs leading to the bathroom and bedroom.
The refrigerator is 12 Volt only as is the slide out control and leveling jack system. There is an auto leveling system built in but with a dead leveling jack I have to do that manually.

Some specs…….
The RV is setup for 50Amp but will run on 30Amp as well. Including my Inverter/generator. Propane furnace for heat, works great and propane only tank less on demand hot water heater.
80 gallon fresh water tank.
(2) 40 gallon grey water tanks, one for the kitchen sink and one for the bathroom sink and shower and one 40 gallon black water tank for the toilet.
Always an adventure dumping the tanks.

So last night I received a welcome to Texas storm, basically 7 hours of constant lightning, thunder and pouring rain.

Since I’m on the subject of water I’ve got a project today that I should have done before I left Kentucky. Install a water filtration system.
When we stopped in Arkansas for the night I hooked up to the parks water supply, luckily I didn’t use it much but when I woke up in the morning we had very little water pressure?
We were leaving anyway so when I went out to disconnect the water line and took off the pressure regulator it was completely packed with mud 😡😡
Now I need to sanitize my whole water system, the service technician I almost hired had picked up a water filtration system for me and even delivered it to me at the campground so today I need to completely drain, flush and sanitize the pipes, pump and fresh water tank.
Always something to do.

yes water FILTRATION is key
we used a whole house water filter, you can buy at lowes etc, filters are easy to get

and then all drinking water goes through the reverse osmosis system
i run the effluent drain out to an overboard drain so it does not fill up the tanks
it looks like an a/c drain
i put my filters inside the wet bay so the water supply hose lugs into the that, which leaves just a hose to hook up
we also have a whole house water pressure regulator installed just past the filters to keep us at 55 to 60 psi.
and added water softener, as water in many texas places is so hard you can see the rocks in it
we lost many water hoses in Arkansas, squirrels kept eating them???
your rv is laid out nice, that large provisions closet is KILLER (y)
my sis lives down near the border in la feria, she crosses over to get stuff in mexico once a week.
scares me to death, but she has been doing it for more than 30 years.

i wont .

if you can NAS corpus christi has excellent rv camping,
wind is always up, so no awning out time

So yesterday was a success, I drained the RV’s plumbing, sanitized it with a bleach solution and flushed it out twice, I then installed my water filter and now have very clean fresh drinking water.
Today I’m going to use the campground dumpster and get rid of things I’m finding that my girlfriend packed we basically don’t need.

With my girlfriend still in Mexico I’m going to ask the single lady I met a few campsites away if she wants to watch a movie with me, I’m wishing now I hadn’t gotten rid of all my porn DVD’s……….

Just kidding on that last part……🙄🤣😂🤣

I wanted to share……

If you don’t think there’s sick people out there I’ve got a story that will make your blood boil…..
I’m currently staying on Padre Island Corpus Christi and for the last week there has been a mother and her young Down syndrome daughter tent camping in the park.
I honestly felt bad for them as the weather has been horrible but they roughed it out.
What was disgusting was another camper allowed his unrestrained dog to scratch on their tent and scared the young girl. When reported to the camp host who got the park Ranger involved this person took it to a new level and verbally harassed the young girl and threatened the mother which was also reported and got the local sheriff and state police involved, the “man” and I use that term loosely was arrested and charged with felony harassment and threatening.
So YES there are some very sick people out there unfortunately even amongst us campers.

Sick and stupid people that talk themselves into a felony arrest. And it’s always someone else’s fault. 🙄😡

So it’s been 28 days since I started this adventure and I have a lot to update so I apologize for the lengthy post.
First this is the tablet that allows me to control almost everything in the RV….
IMG_5116.jpeg

I won’t go into detail but I will say in the climate control section there are two settings for Air Conditioning.
One is Auto and the other is designated with a snow flake, well of course I had to try that first, let’s just say it should have just said “to hang meat” 🥶🥶😂😂
I now use the auto setting.
I spent 2 weeks in Corpus Christi at a national park with no hookup’s so water and battery conservation was paramount, fortunately generator use was permitted.
Two days before leaving I spent time getting ready to travel and found something very disappointing, I remember mentioning in a previous post that the RV had a great pantry however while getting read to move I found the shelves in the pantry were starting pull away from the walls and collapse. ☹️
The reason is they were constructed with staples. Wow. Well the carpenter in me kicked in and I spent a solid day reinforcing and supporting each shelf.
I see no issues going forward.
The day I left Corpus my girlfriend left for San Antonin so I traveled alone without her following me. I did fine but chose a route to my next destination that the road was just horrible and yet still designated as a 75mph highway. 😡

I’m currently in a small Texas town called Carrizo Springs, it’s not a border town being 45 minutes from Eagle Pass, I found a RV park with a great monthly rate and full hookups. It’s definitely a no frills park but at just pennies more than $10 a night with city water, electric and sewer hookups at each site it’s a steal.
This is where my next adventure begins, being a 5th wheel RV it attaches to my truck using two things, in the truck is the hitch……
IMG_5094.jpeg

A lot smaller but similar to what a semi tractor trailer uses. The lever on the left,
“Yellow handle” controls the locking mechanism.
On the RV what attaches to this is called a Pin Box….
IMG_5086.jpeg

It’s hard to see but the “pin” on the bottom left is what attaches to the hitch using a locking mechanism. No safety chains however there is cable that from a switch next to the Pin Box the cable attaches to the trucks hitch and if the locking mechanism fails the and the RV slides back the cable pulls out the pin and the RV’s brakes are activated.
Back in December I joined several Facebook groups and in one there was a discussion about the brand of Pin Box that I have on my RV The short version is it has issues, well mine does and upon arriving in Carrizo Springs and following a close inspection I found a very disturbing situation. The following picture shows gaping and steel plates that are slightly bending.
IMG_5093.jpeg

A quick note the Pin Box is bolted to a solid framework of steel that is attached to the RV
After some research I found that (Curt) the brand of PB that i have is owned by Lippert and after contacting them it took two pictures and an hour for Lippert to decide to “under warranty” replace my Pin Box assembly. So now here I sit waiting for the delivery of my new Pin Box which is scheduled for delivery this coming Wednesday.
More to come……..

you can tell you spent time at the ocean. when you get the new pin box, replace the washers with stainless and put on a good coat of a preservative . fluid film works real good and is easily found at tractor supply and big box home stores

the pin box stretching or bending is a problem with the bolts being so far away from the outer edge. so its pulling the pin frame around and thus bending at the bolt. but its not solved easily without moving the vertical bolts up to allow the bolts closer the outside
i am surprised to see this still being an issue with this pin box and set up, when a secondary strapping could be welded in at the bolt locations across to the vertical flanges.
great that lippert is replacing it .
