Review: Springfield Hellcat .380 ACP

I'm too invested in the LCP series...

To try something striker fired.

I've lost count of the times I've tried a micro compact thinking, "This is the one!" including the original Hellcat. All of them are sold. But there is still a part of me that yearns for a small pistol I can carry in the summer that "disappears" under a t-shirt. That said, I've just bought the Echelon 4.0c Comp and I can comfortably EDC that beautiful pistol with an optic mounted under a loose, untucked button down. Maybe if I get a chance to shoot the Hellcat .380 between now and next summer, I'll think about it - assuming it runs as well as this review presents. Until then, it's big gun season anyway, so I'm not going to be Charlie Brown just yet...

Hello all, here is today's article posted on TheArmoryLife.com. It is titled “Review: Springfield Hellcat .380 ACP” and can be found at https://www.thearmorylife.com/springfield-hellcat-380-acp-review/.

If you carry a Springfield Hellcat, you already know it’s one of the best options for concealed carry. Its compact size, great capacity, and reliable performance make it an easy choice for everyday pocket carry.

One thing many Hellcat owners overlook, though, is carrying a spare magazine. Magazines are the most common failure point in a semi-auto pistol — and having a backup on hand can make all the difference in a critical situation. That’s where the ExtraCarry.com Mag Pouch comes in.

I use an ExtraCarry pouch to carry a spare mag right in my pocket. It locks in place with a patent-pending clip, looks just like a pocketknife, and completely conceals your magazine while keeping it clean, secure, and ready for a fast reload.

The great news for Hellcat 380 owners: ExtraCarry just released a mag pouch specifically for the Springfield Hellcat 380 (13-round mag). It’s the same deep-concealment solution trusted by thousands of EDC carriers, now perfectly fitted for the new Hellcat variant.

As a very old guy who used to have been involved in far too many serious social situations, I'm a firm believer in stopping power. I have been in the middle of four situations where the perps were using short barrel .38 specials that did a lot of damage, but failed to stop the law enforcement they were shooting at before they themselves were shot. I had access to what at the time were the nationally recognized 9mm law enforcement only rounds which I supplied to a DEA agent which he ended up pumping into a perp during a raid. Six rounds in the chest did not stop the perp from stabbing the agent. :(

While I have seen a .45ACP Commander emptied on a perp before it stopped him, a .45 is about as good as it gets so that is my primary handgun. Like most agents and LEOs that have been in heavy situation roles, I used to carry five guns when working. Part of that was to avoid the need to reload, and part because in my role I was often searched for guns and two of my smallest guns were never found, even when circumstances found me in jail overnight twice.

All of that said, I have been in the middle of several serious situations where a tiny .22 LR revolver and a .25ACP semi auto stopped problems immediately, but, all of those situations were contact to the head situations. Circumstances can make all the difference. :cautious:

Today, around the house, my favorite is the Remington TAC-13 with a green laser attachment. At my age, I need all the advantages I can get.
