Smaller Guns for Defense?

Don't make me spank you two

How'bout a suit and tie?
That's been a much more recent and frequent occurrence. Every week when attending church. I just carry my "whatever" (Glock 19 / 1911 / etc) in my usual manner in an IWB holster. Coat stays on, my suit is not tailored to cling to "my athletic body" (Ha!), so it does not print. If I am going where the coat might have to be removed, I have a deep concealment trick or two that allow me to still carry my "whatever" firearm of choice.

I've never heard of an attacker being aggressive after having a .22LR fired in their eye........after all, I've heard at one time, the .22 was a favorite for assassinations.

Does this mean you are willing to act as a " target dummy"? (I'm probably half right.) Stand up (without body armor). We'll see how resilient you are. Okay?
Yeah thats a response I expected from this thread
Shoot twice and reassess the situation.
Do what you think is best for you but the world has changed since they taught that in the 1970s. Bad guys are "chemically enhanced" now both drugs and steroids (and just fat), not to mention body armor that can be cobbled together from stuff at Home Depot for $50.

How'bout this, maybe practice for head shots?

.22lr was used to kill like ~8 people in Pikes County Ohio. Two brothers murdered the whole family of one of their ex-wives in a custody dispute all assassination style in the night. Gruesome ****.

.22lr will definitely kill with a headshot.

Yes it remains a good assassination gun/cartridge with a close or contact shot and YES it will kill but its hardly a first choice for a self defense solution., yeah yeah yeah better than a sharp stick or "the look" from your mother-in-law; but not a best option for anyone capable of handling anything better

...and just because Im sure someone will suggest it, no one will volunteer to stand in front of it.

.22lr wouldn't be my choice for defense but the "Fudge I've been shot" factor might be one of the biggest unknowns in the world. People don't tend to take kindly to being shot and many times that alone is enough to break contact and get away.
I have worked as an Armed Security Officer armed with a Glock Model 20. I also wore body armor. Not all scroats wear it. In the civilian world, most bad guys back off after being shot several times with any firearm.

Couple other advantages, the attacker stops but doesn't die, to not likely to have long drawn-out legal issues in some anti-gun village, and there's no claim you intended to kill by firing a canon at some guy with a pen knife.

Downside, the attacker gets to tell his side......whatever....

Believe it or not, when fired from a 3.5-4" barrel and employing the aforementioned FMJ/FP, the .32 ACP is as effective as the .380 ACP. Penetration is what's required from these smaller handguns. My 3.9" Walther (Manurhin) PP and 3.5" Bersa can penetrate well using the Fiocchi 73-grain FMJ ammunition.

This is how it penetrated when fired from a Kel Tec P32.

Below this is how it penetrated when fired from a Beretta Model 81 (a 3.9" barrel).

The foregoing post should give you an enlightened perspective on the ability of a properly placed "lowly .32" ACP.
I didn't go into this blindly. My Bersa .32 can exceed the penetration capability of my 2.7" barreled Kel Tec P32.

Contrary to popular belief, the Walther PP and the PPK can be effective. Proper shot placement and the right ammunition, and the .32 will "rise to the occasion". The Bersa is light, quick, and holds 10+1.

I'm neither reckless nor stupid.

The new Beretta 80X is now available in .32 ACP (as well as in .380). You can bet that 12+1 rounds and a 4.4" barrel will be sufficient to "accomplish the mission."
