The New VC-35B Air Force One.

Note to a comment above. President Reagan's Airforce One (that was entirely paid for by US taxpayers during it's service) was donated to the Reagan Library when it was replaced with the current VC-25As. I don't think former President Reagan was given a bill for it.

The same will happen when POTUS 47 retires, and the VC-25B "Bridge" aircraft is retired/replaced by the fully-outfitted VC-25Bs that are grossly overdue.

Inside The Making Of The New Air Force One: How L3Harris transformed the gifted Qatari 747-8i into a VC-25B presidential transport in just 10 months.

An informative article on how the new "Bridge" Airforce One was completed.

This modified, Qatari-gifted 747-8i is set to serve as an interim Air Force One aircraft ahead of the much-delayed arrival of two fully outfitted VC-25Bs from Boeing.

To get a better sense of how this project came together so quickly, the challenges it faced and the tradeoffs that had to be made, we spoke with Jason Lambert, President of Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) at L3Harris, the company that performed the conversion. During the interview, he gave us some unique insights into this highly visible and often controversial effort.

Also, Here's one of the two other 747-8i's that will serve as trainers/parts supplies to support the forth-coming VC-25Bs into the future since the 747-8i is out of production.

Something that was thought of with the VC-25As that remain until the two new VC-25Bs arrive in the next few years.

Bonus to a previous speculative post about potential "bugs".

From the article...

One of the first things we have to do on this aircraft, in conjunction with the U.S. government, is ensure it is safe. There was a lot of content and buzz on blogs and whatnot about is the aircraft secure? Is there anything that we wouldn’t want coming in on the aircraft? Somebody could listen in, something like that. And I can assure you that was very effectively managed to the highest degree.

Experts from the U.S. government, experts from L3Harris, experts in cyber security, electronic warfare, ensured that every square inch of that plane was clean, not only on the exterior but interior of the plane and all systems within. So I’ll say, there’s just electronic scrubbing, is how I would describe it, to ensure that it was safe and secure. Frankly, that work took place even before we were able to do any real work on the plane.

and...

Q: The aircraft belonged to another country’s government. What had to happen in order to make sure a foreign aircraft like this is free from potential nefarious tampering, bugs and other potential threats? Did every single component have to be examined?

A: What I can say is that a team of experts from the US government, in terms of cyber security, did an immense amount of work on this aircraft, in conjunction with the L3Harris team, to ensure that this aircraft was fully safe from that environment, that threat, and that threat has been fully mitigated. I can say that. How they do it is classified.

Are they going to paint the rest of the fleet to match the new paint scheme. The old paint scheme was good, but the new one is modern and clean.

We'll see what the refurbed VC-25A looks like when it arrives from L3Harris soon.

The C-32's (757's) and some 737-types others have the new modern paint job.

The new plane is beautiful.

Since they always use the other VC25A as a decoy when POTUS flies on Air Force One (the other VC25) , i wonder if they're thinking of painting the old plane.

Hi,

Don't let the TDS media make a mountain out of a molehill. Once this plane is decommissioned, DJT is not going to park it at his private airfield and use it for his personal aircraft. It will go on display for all the public to see. What it's cost to make it servicable is chump change compared to all the waste and fraud of other administrations. With all the delays, this plane might have to serve more than one president. I like the paint scheme too, very USA!

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

In reality the new VC-25B "Bridge" will be in there.

They'll likely pull the "real" engines for use in the fully-fitted out VC-25B fleet, and substitute a plug depicting a false inlet fan.

The serial for the VC-25B Bridge in U.S. Air Force service will be 25-3300. The aircraft originally carried the Qatari registrations A7-HJA, then A7-HJB. After the Qatar Amiri Flight put the jet into storage, it was re-registered as P4-HBJ. Then, after being transferred to the U.S. it was given the U.S. civilian registration N7478D.

The fielding of the VC-25B Bridge aircraft could be considered a “forced decision,” as the Air Force needed options to avoid capability gaps in the presidential transport mission. In fact, the service explains that an interim capability became an absolute imperative as the Boeing VC-25B deliveries delayed past the initial 2024 target and VC-25A heavy maintenance cycles are extending.

It is unclear what caused the change, but may be related to the different defensive and other capabilities on the new VC-25B bridge aircraft.

I had asked if the rest of the fleet was getting the updated livery:

“In Prague today (July 8, 2026, after 7 p.m.), the U.S. government special Boeing C-32 (B757-200) landed in the new colors that are currently also on Air Force One.”

The fleet-wide repainting has been going on since February,....

The U.S. Air Force officially unveiled and began rolling out the new livery in mid-February 2026, marking the first major color redesign for the fleet in more than 60 years.

A quick timeline of the government aircraft repaint project:
  • February 2026: The U.S. Air Force announced that it would replace the classic white and "robin's egg blue" Kennedy-era design with a bold new color palette.
  • The New Colors: The updated exterior features a white, deep red, and dark navy blue color scheme, accented with gold stripes.
  • Rollout Strategy: Aircraft—including VIP jets used by the Vice President and cabinet members—are being repainted as they go in for scheduled maintenance and repairs.
  • Air Force One Updates: The bold new design has also been applied to the new presidential fleet, including a retrofitted Boeing 747-8i that was gifted by Qatar.
...but this 737 has had it since December 2025.

The U.S. Coast Guard, which falls under the purview of DHS, has now received the first of two modified Gulfstream 700 (G700) jets wearing this livery, as well
