do they wake you up......or let you sleep....???
Warrant squad- my partner and i had to hunt down a young lady who left for lunch, jury duty, didn’t return. Go find her, arrest her. We did.

When I went to Jury selection they had two cops in the pool.

They brought them all the way into the courtroom and then the judge explains to everybody there that even police are eligible for jury duty but he had to dismiss him automatically because they may have had a professional(IOW arrested) encounter with the defendant.

Then the Judge told us he got called for Jury duty. He thought they'd dismiss him immediately but they made him sit on the jury.

Outside of a courtroom and a legal context, I agree. But as the basis for a legal case, proceeding based on someone's "word" without a preponderance of evidence to back it up, is a system that is ripe for abuse, or at a minimum, for terrible rulings based on incompetence. And this was true back in the "good 'ol days" as well (and those abuses happened all the time).
Is it a trial or preliminary hearing?

I got a jury duty notice years ago. I mentioned it to my Dr. at the VA, he said he would take care of it. I called the courthouse before the date listed and they said they had received a letter from the VA and it was now on file. Don't know what they said in the letter but it's been over 10 yrs ago. Maybe they said I was dead?
The Feds sent me a notice, Western District, Oklahoma. I too had a VA appointment. I talked to a lady, explained my situation. Told her i was a wounded Marine, needed to see the VA. Her husband was a Marine too/ she took care of my problem. She was about to retire, her last gig would be in Colorado, Timothy McVeigh trial

No You're Not. Like voting I also consider jury duty a "civic responsibility" and would happily serve. But you may not like my service. There is the law and then there is what's right. ("Mr. Bumble, squeezing his hat emphatically in both hands, "the law is a ass" Charles Dickens). My post was accurate, and I was a prison guard, not my fault that the DA and the Def. acted the way they did. Nice up here on our high horse aint it? :devilish:
Our high horse? Hardly. . .

It is sad. There was a time in this Country that when a man gave his word it meant something. People were honest, a deal was made with a hand shake, you were innocent until proven guilty. People don't teach their boys to be men anymore. Almost everyone has forgotten the values that made this Country great.
as i read your posting, i can say that..(in my opinion) it all came to a crashing halt, when a few things happened.

1) illegal immigration, where the morals, and ethics of those coming here, just don;t have any. to break the laws in thier home country, they go to what amounts as a dungeon or sewer pit.. to be put into an American jail/prison here, is like when a white collar criminal gets sentenced to a "country club" federal facility,..... meaning...they look forward to it.

2) school boards, teachers, left way progressive thinking voters, that deny real facts, real history, for teachings that fit a totally different agenda to brain wash our youth, into a socialist way of life.

3) it is not that everyone "forgot" the values, it is that many simply can no longer tolerate the ever increasing ignorance of those that get voted into office, time and time again, yet complain about it, and continue to repeat it all over again......(AKA....insanity)

The best trial I served on was a drug trial. Young guy caught with 1/4 lb. of roaches, 1/2 lb. of hash and enough LSD to make 10,000 hits of blotter acid. Of course a lot of beakers and glassware to make it all happen. His attorney called him a human garbage pail, meaning he would consume anything. We decided the roaches and hash were personal consumption, but the LSD was found to be for sale/distribution. I never heard what the sentence was as that was not our deal.

Last year I served on a jury ( the one and only time I wanted to serve and did serve). It was a little prick who spent all day getting hammered in a bar, then drove his car in excess of 110 MPH, rear ending a couple with their 6 month old baby. Their car went off the road, struck a tree and burst into flames burning all 3 of them alive. THAT's why I wanted to serve. Unfortunately the punk had a high dollar, greasy ass lawyer and ended up being sentenced to only 8 years. If it wasn't for me though he likely would have gotten off. Well, me and one other guy. I straight up told the other jurors that there was no way in hell we were ever going home unless we convicted him of 3 counts of negligent Manslaughter. This was after a week and a half of trial and 2 days of deliberations.

I was trying to be nice. More difficult than I thought as I get older ;) JMHO maybe you could lighten up on the self-righteousness a bit, BUT I most certainly could lighten up on the grumpy intolerant old Bast... routine. I took all the posts as stories and letting out frustration. With Def. proposing any imaginal B.S. as an excuse, and the Prosecution, all to frequently failing to disclose evidence that would hurt their "win", then judges that are far from impartial, the legal system is a shambles. I don't have an answer, it would take someone smarter than I to fix it. Being forced to take part in this farce, it is understandable why it is irritating. On the other hand, whatever lifts your skirt. (y)

I’m too old now. Besides I used to not be picked due to my education and conservative views.
