What do you guys think of this CCW lesson?

I’m pretty much exclusively carrying safetyless strikers now.
Lots of folks do, and like ‘em. Most cops carry that as well. I will say the Reflex has a much nicer trigger than any striker gun I’ve ever shot, and the three guys that work at my local toy store all agree, they passed mine around when I picked it up and we’re all very impressed. A long DA stroke isn’t bad, but a short, light, crisp trigger with NO safety isn’t my cup of tea. Point is though, each person needs to carry what they are comfortable with, Train hard with that and know their pistols strengths and weaknesses. Failure to do so is inviting problems that nobody needs. Sig 365 has been a standard for several years now. I bought one when thy first came out ( no safety). I liked it and it shot great, but I was not comfortable carrying it with one in the tube ( and I WON’T carry without one up the spout ).

I carry a Reflex w/o a safety. It is in my rotation so I train with it. When I carry it, it has one chambered. My trigger finger knows where it belongs, I don't worry about it. I train with four carry pistols regularly (dry and live fire), and none of them has a safety. Any handgun I have that has a safety, I leave it off. That's just me. I am comfortable with my firearm handling and I've had enough training with instructors to embed proper trigger and muzzle discipline.
That's just me...

I’m sorry, I’m late to the conversation. I suppose someone is going to come along and tell me .45 is better than 9mm. That I’m doing it wrong if I don’t clean a gun every time I shoot it. And hammer guns are better than plastic wonder nines.

BTW, does anybody actually know firsthand, someone who got gunned down because they didn’t get their safety off in time?

- 45 is NOT better than 9mm, nor is it worse, and I'll fight anyone that says otherwise
- The only gun I clean after shooting is my carry gun
- Hammer guns and Strikers both have their value and both are equally great. Personal preference, nothing more.
- All plastics are polymers, but not all polymers are plastics. But yes, polymer guns are indeed wonders

45 is better

I’m so old I kinda expect the “professional” to be a subject matter expert….obviously not the case with this guy.🙄. A pistol with an empty chamber is just a weird shaped brick. Given that bad things happen quickly an empty chamber could ‘cause you a serious problem in an emergency…. As far as safeties, I was taught to hunt/shoot by my Dad,aWW2 vet, Expert with the Thompson submachine gun, avid hunter and one of the best wing shots I’ve ever seen. Dad was strict, and his gun rules were (1) treat every gun, all the time as though it was loaded. ‘Empty” guns are the ones that “accidentally” kill people (2) never, ever point a gun at anything you are not willing to destroy, and (3) a gun’s safety is to be engaged at all times except when you raise the gun to take a shot, and is to immediately be returned to “safe” as soon as you finish shooting. I’ve followed these rules since 1958 and they’ve never let me down. And yes, I know they don’t go bang unless the trigger is pulled (ok maybe an sig 320 does🙄), but my training and experience has always been to use that safety. Of course in those days pretty much everything had either a trigger or a hammer which served as a safety. Do what works for you, just be darn sure you’re proficient with whatever you’re using. You cannot be too careful when handling a firearm.👍

I will say I see a LOT of folks (usually newer or that once in a. While match participants) get flustered in a match and not get the safety off.

On condition 3. (And o didn’t watch the video I can’t take Mr Chisel and his sales stuff)

There are only a couple times I’d say that having an empty chamber is even remotely feasible. 1 doesn’t apply to most of us but a fighter/bomber pilot they won’t use or need their gun til on the ground (that whole while their parachuting is not a real thing yeah yeah that WW2 story they shot planes down with Sam’s now)

And or if you have it in a survival kit stashed away.

IF someone is uncomfortable with a loaded carry AIWB it’s simple DON’T or get a DA/SA HK LEM or 1911 (and with 1911’s sont take the thumb safety off til you are on target!)

I know several valid vetted national level trainers that won’t carry a striker AIWB but will a Sig 226 etc.

Most folks that get into trouble have no holster Ir a cheap flea market mushroom hunting/fishing cap gun looking holster so there’s also that! But decent holster

This.

I'm perfectly comfortable carrying Cond. 1 in my pocket (my Bodyguard 1.0/2.0 with a decent pocket holster, like AHolster) or OWB. I'm just not comfortable AIWB (where the "A" stands for "Anywhere") but especially when it's pointed directly at Big Jim & the Twins.

For that reason, I simply don't usually carry IWB. I know it's entirely in my head, especially with a firearm as ultra-reliable as a Smith, but I just can't shake it. It's a phobia, and it has nothing to do with trust or training, it's just an irrational fear, like how some people are afraid of spiders or snakes.

But it does come down to a good holster. That's one of those things I never skimp out on or buy budget. It's just too important.

What a lot of folks don’t consider or aren’t even aware of is even at the 3 o’clock (or 9 for you special people) I don’t care how carful you are at various times uiu are sweeping your femoral upon the draw.

And when sitting down in say a car how many times does your knee/leg pass in front of the muzzle? A lot more than one thinks!

I so a lot of AIWB but I have good holsters especially with my M&P and Glock
