Why the 1911 Remains a Top Choice for Gun Owners

I've had a long time love affair with the 1911. Its my favorite pistol and I have a bunch of 'em. 😁
A lightweight Commander in .45 was my primary carry for most of my adult life. Still have it and still carry it from time to time.
When I was shooting IDPA regularly, I used a Springfield Loaded Model 1911 in .45acp. No, I didn't wimp out for a 9mm version.
As for the 2011? A much better single action, double stack 9mm has been around since 1935. The Hi-Power. (y)

I’ve run a lot of plastic strikers—definitely the major players, as well as many DA/SA service pistols—P226/229, Beretta M92, CZ75/P01, HK USP, P30…

I’ve yet to find one that will outshoot, accuracy wise, a good 1911…even if it runs as much as that good 1911.

As I’ve said before; the 1911 is like entering a Model T at the Indy 500, or Daytona, LeMans…and crushing the competition.

I’m gonna disagree with you on the Hi Power—and I really like my Hi Powers.

The 2011’s straight-press trigger with minimal reset will beat even a massaged BHP trigger.

I love shooting 1911's and enjoy them just like I do M1 rifles, M1 carbines, and 1903 Springfields, but they've all been replaced for a reason.

When they let me keep only one, it'll be one of my Glocks.

I currently own 3 carry guns. A Glock 17, a Hellcat Pro and Kimber Custom 45 1911
My Hellcat is my go to every day gun, especially in the summer because it's easier to carry.
My Kimber is my go to for church, especially on Sundays as I wear a suit coat. I'll be strapping it on in a little over an hour.
My Glock rarely leaves the safe
Becuase I know if I need to make a perfect shot across a crowded sanctuary I am making that with my Kimber. Not so with my Glock. If I am getting into a full out firefight, sure, give me the 17 merely for capacity. But if I absolutely NEED that one precision shot, 1911 all day, any day.
my legacy xd 9 mm 4.5 service is my go to one most often
the bersa 380 thunder also gets lots of seat time

My EDC for a lot of years was a Sig Sauer C3 I bought in 2009 .... Carried it until 2023 when health reasons made me switch to a lighter EDC

Currently have 15 1911/2011 guns. Expensive ones, cheap ones .... Love shooting them all. My favorite three are a Dan Wesson Guardian in 9mm and 2 Wilson Combat EDC X9's a 4.25" and a 5"
