Also from the dark ages, a cheap "holster" from the pair of reading glasses is the perfect size to slip in a 1911 magazine. Keeps the dust and lint out. If you are going to pocket carry mags....
You and me both Brother. I had a second mag pouch made with a RED CROSS on the flap, so it looked like a IFAK, because my boss would have freaked if he knew I was carrying extra ammoI have had to go to work in some really weird areas.
Like I said Long time agoI thought was the rule of the 7 P's

Yep,back when I was a Deputy that was the rule. Have enough ammo and equipment to get back in because the Sheriff didn't want to have to tell our families we weren't coming home. Those days the only thing the Department provided was shirt pants a star and a patrol car.We have some deputies out there in the brush with the cartels, but I don't think the Sheriff really cares about the number of reloads they have. One deputy has the nickname of Pancho because of his bandoliers. Until the fence was done, it was an absolute war zone for a while.
This. As an armed, law abiding citizen I avoid sketchy areas and keep myself aware of my surroundings. I see and hear folks talking about carrying tons of spare ammo and have to wonder how that plays out in the real world-like in court after a “good” shoot, even if was in the right “your honor Mr Z was obviously out looking for trouble as he was carrying a weapon and 72 rounds of ammunition”, or even worse, if somebody actually DID a mag dump or two, loosing 20, 30 or more rounds. In any urban environment you’re going to be hitting something you didn’t intend to. Do what makes you feel warm and fuzzy but think before you act. Perception IS reality these days and you can be the “good guy” and still wind up in prison…..When carrying 1911 one spare is enough for me.
Hahaha No one ever said.......Oh darn, I wish I'd brought less ammo with me.![]()

Running out of bullets is not primary reason for extra mags. Mags are the major problem for malfunctions in pistols so a extra mag or 2 may be a good idea. Shooting back may not happen but being able to is nice just in case. While a cute saying the reality is you are gonna run out of time before you run out of bullets. What’s in the gun js it there has never been a successful reload in a self defence shooting.
But folks want to think they are an exception!
