For you 1911 guys how many mags do you carry?

We have some deputies out there in the brush with the cartels, but I don't think the Sheriff really cares about the number of reloads they have. One deputy has the nickname of Pancho because of his bandoliers. Until the fence was done, it was an absolute war zone for a while.
Yep,back when I was a Deputy that was the rule. Have enough ammo and equipment to get back in because the Sheriff didn't want to have to tell our families we weren't coming home. Those days the only thing the Department provided was shirt pants a star and a patrol car.

When carrying 1911 one spare is enough for me.
This. As an armed, law abiding citizen I avoid sketchy areas and keep myself aware of my surroundings. I see and hear folks talking about carrying tons of spare ammo and have to wonder how that plays out in the real world-like in court after a “good” shoot, even if was in the right “your honor Mr Z was obviously out looking for trouble as he was carrying a weapon and 72 rounds of ammunition”, or even worse, if somebody actually DID a mag dump or two, loosing 20, 30 or more rounds. In any urban environment you’re going to be hitting something you didn’t intend to. Do what makes you feel warm and fuzzy but think before you act. Perception IS reality these days and you can be the “good guy” and still wind up in prison…..

I carry 2, minimum, of whatever a reload is, magazine, speed loader, whatever. Not because I'll need or use that many. Because "be prepared". I grab a reload and send it flying where it lands in the mud or down a culvert or otherwise gone or unusable. Now I'm no better off than the "I don't carry a spare, one is more than enough for me" unprepared, and apologies to those affected, unintelligent user who has nothing. I still have one left. And if this is that once in a lifetime event when my magazine goes bad or my gun drops it or I mistakenly eject it or whatever I'm hopefully not dead because I was ignorant and unprepared.

When I am out and about I only carry one spare mag or speed strip woth wheelguns no matter what it is.

When I am on duty in uniform I run 2 spare mags but am contemplating going to one extra woth a cuff mag pouch combo as I am not manic many arrests in schools 3 on 3 years and any active shooter confronted will be over before I get to a reload and that’s going off of 50 plus years of events we have seen.

CONUS isn’t Afghanistan where you need resupply flown in for extended firefights but it’s a free country to carry what you want

While a cute saying the reality is you are gonna run out of time before you run out of bullets. What’s in the gun js it there has never been a successful reload in a self defence shooting.

But folks want to think they are an exception!
Running out of bullets is not primary reason for extra mags. Mags are the major problem for malfunctions in pistols so a extra mag or 2 may be a good idea. Shooting back may not happen but being able to is nice just in case.
