So if you look at the follower of your magazine there is a little indent on the side that when the magazine is empty it pushes up on the slide stop after the last round is fired and locks the slide to the rear so you know your empty. When the magazine is loaded the follower is below the lips of the magazine and it won’t trip the slide stop.
