New owner of a 1911 and have a question

So if you look at the follower of your magazine there is a little indent on the side that when the magazine is empty it pushes up on the slide stop after the last round is fired and locks the slide to the rear so you know your empty. When the magazine is loaded the follower is below the lips of the magazine and it won’t trip the slide stop. Welcome to the forum no such thing as a stupid question cause the only way to learn is to ask.
That makes so much sense ! And thank you for the welcome

If you are “clearing” the firearm, the very first thing you should do is drop the magazine. You pulling the slide back with a magazine in it in an effort to “clear” it already shows you need a lot of basic understanding to be safe. Learn and practice basic handling skills before trying to move on to more advanced skills.

Welcome to one of the better forums. Personally I’d stay away from Glocks forum. I started there then migrated here. Lot better to learn here about subjects.
Thank you ! I only own Springfield products (Hellcat Pro, Echelon 4.5F Comp, and now The Prodigy 5 inch Comp) getting to know those 3 in this forum has been pretty exciting . so I’m sure i will remain here lol
