Shots fired at correspondents dinner

It is noteworthy that the shooter shot the agent with the shotgun at point blank range, with the agent supposedly getting off 5 rounds on him and missing. I guess after getting hit with a shotgun round in the vest from a shooter running at you full bore would cause anybody to miss. Can't fault the agent for missing in that scenario.

Yep, Being hit in the chest with a shotgun can spoil one's aim.

I was wondering which gun the shooter used. I know he also had a handgun or two. I figured maybe he used the handgun since the agent wasn't hurt.

Ive been watching the media experts spout about all the missed shots and shaking my head, wondering how many have actually been in a "real crisis situation". Weekends at the paintball range doesnt count. Hunting bambi from a tree stand doesnt count. Going to the gun range helps but even that doesnt count

About the only thing I question is the “appearance” of all the agents appearing to be watching/looking toward the stairway leading to the ballroom. Usually when you set up a perimeter, and you’re posted on that perimeter, the job is to watch what might approach that perimeter from the outside, not what’s already on the inside. It looked to me, at least from the video so far released, they all seemed to be looking inside, toward the event instead. I did see the canine unit had just walked past the door the gunman emerged from, but I do think if the agent nearest the metal detector had been observing outward, things might have ended differently.

As an aside, I do not think there was even a chance of the gunman reaching/entering the ballroom or reaching POTUS the way security was set up overall, but I do think the USSS agents at the last metal detector were a bit too comfortable that the exterior perimeters would prevent any threat from reaching their perimeter. Just my opinion.

Theres no doubt the security "could" have been tighter; but Id be saying that even if the event had gone off without an incident. Were the guys at the magnetometer 100%, IDK, maybe not but they still stopped the threat. Anybody whos actually worked a post like that will tell you its impossible to be 100% for any time, especially after the gate is clear AND anybody who thinks they can is well, just wrong.

Sure I hope theres an after action discussion with maybe some butt chewing but a whole lot of good jobs. Can we learn from this? Yes and Im betting they have. Im most hoping the media experts will have someone tell them your full of sheet....if you can remember the details of the last time you stood that kind of post
