Why Was Hip Shooting Ever A Thing?

Many us had little or no choice. Many agencies and departments were afraid to allow anything other than .38 round nose rounds even in guns built for magnums. My particular beef was several federal agencies issuing the "Hoover Special" 3" stamped "Property of the US Dept of Justice" being issued...

Why Was Hip Shooting Ever A Thing?

I'm old enough to have shot with him at a shooting range.

Why Was Hip Shooting Ever A Thing?

Hint from someone who learned and used hip shooting in real life: Buy and practice with a CO2 powered BB pistol. Much cheaper and it offers many more places to practice. I haven't tried it yet, but I have a buddy who swears by these new laser targets.

Why Was Hip Shooting Ever A Thing?

I'm old enough that all of my early trainers were hip shooters. Given what their law enforcement lives were like the fact they were still alive to train others meant something.

So, does more money equal better weapon?

Hmm... Some of my expensive guns have been highly decorated and are eye candy as well as being a functional tool. I also have spent considerable money in the past to end up with truly custom guns over the years, like cut down 1911s in the late 1960s and 1970s to create concealable pieces not...

Will You Use Your CCW If You Are Attacked?

It is a long way from the days when the FBI academy taught it was the proper procedure to shoot to kill if someone suspected of a felony tried to flee after being ordered to stop. It was also something else when George Nonte brought the group of Shooting Times writers together in Peoria...

Will You Use Your CCW If You Are Attacked?

He wrote several articles and later a book, Unrepentant Sinner, in which he acknowledged numerous fatal encounters as part of his law enforcement responsibilities that made him a pariah among many people and really screwed with his income. He made the mistake of stating that he had killed 27...

Will You Use Your CCW If You Are Attacked?

The problem with this is, most people who have the experience learned a lesson from Charlie Askins. After his unfortunate mistake, almost everyone else who could have written about their personal experiences negated and mitigated their own experiences.

Shotguns Vs. Rifles for Bear Defense: Which is Best?

I'm not interested in a hunting ethics discussion. I liked the challenge of hunting animals that could hunt back and at least had some chance of getting me before I got them. Times are also different in these beta male woke times than they were in the last century. I'm the product of the USA of...

Shotguns Vs. Rifles for Bear Defense: Which is Best?

Marlin 45-70 because I'm way faster on follow up shots with a level over a bolt. If I'm not hunting but defending then my choice is a Remington V-3 TAC 13 loaded with Brenneke Black Magic slugs. Both guns are backed by a Ruger Super Blackhawk in .44 magnum My Polar Bear was taken in 1971, was...

    Wayne LaPierre resigns

Neither he, nor the Board, nor even the Life Members will pick his immediate successor. That will be a Special Master appointed by the NY Courts who makes those selections. That is very worrisome.

    Wayne LaPierre resigns

This was in reply in another forum and I don't want to writethe whole thing over again: What happened is a long and complicated story that involves the annual meeting in Indy (2019) several years ago. Oliver North was in his first year as President of the NRA and his pay was complicated in...

    Wayne LaPierre resigns

I always appreciate hearing the other side. This is an old article and is highly inaccurate. I know because I was there and saw and heard what actually transpired. Regarding the "vendor", that is a long and complicated story and they became the sacrificial lamb during the confrontations. (That...

    Wayne LaPierre resigns

Come on now. I normally respect your posts but this forum went through all of this right after the disaster in Indianapolis. I was one of the people there while Ollie North was being threatened to keep quiet about what he had found and when he refused, he was fired one day before the annual...
