    Range Report: .45 Practice, 10/26/25

So here is my take from training many LEO's, and from being trained by many LEO's. Basic marksmanship is golden. There is no substitute and we should strive to develop the best marksmanship we are capable of. After more than 60 years shooting handguns, many training and instructor courses...

What are you doing right now??

I grew up on a cattle ranch and feed lot so I had no illusions. About 20 years ago I bought 2 young steers and fed them out. I was afraid my wife and daughter would make them pets so I named them Chuck and Porter.

So, Fellow Floridians... how's open carry going for you?

We are in the country in the Florida Panhandle but in the last couple years we have seen runaway development out here. We bought here in the middle of nowhere 35 years ago but urban sprawl is coming to nowhere. At the grandkids school dropoff and pickup lines I am seeing more and more Lexus...

The Pros and Cons of Public vs Private Gun Ranges

Other than my skeet club, where everyone has manners, I avoid public ranges. I built my own range when I started my training business.

So, Fellow Floridians... how's open carry going for you?

Yes there was much "there will be blood running in the streets" hand wringing when Florida implemented its concealed carry law 40 years ago. But everyone with a CWFL license had a background check. Now with no license and background check required and open carry, and now a judge has ruled 18...

So, Fellow Floridians... how's open carry going for you?

A cc pistol that is briefly displayed has not been a violation in Florida for years unless it is done in a threatening manner not necessary for self defense.. And open carry while going to and from fishing or hunting has always been legal. The change in the law with respect to open carry...

What are you doing right now??

I have to say the lighter 1911 is a joy to carry. I love my full size 1911's but they are just so dang heavy.

What are you doing right now??

Having fired 500 or so rounds through it, I made the leap to the Springfield TRP CC this morning as my EDC. Headed out to the skeet range after feeding critters and got one round of skeet in before the rain. Picked up a box of chicken wings from Publix and now hanging out with dogs watching...

Deported back to the U.S. because of a .25 Auto.

When I was a young officer working the street, I carried a .25 auto in a shirt pocket as a hole card. Never had to use it but it felt like insurance.

    Just joined here from GlockIQ

Glock lost the military handgun contract because they refused to make design changes. Sig beat them on ergonomics, modularity, and ease of field maintenance, not to mention a great trigger. Perhaps Glock recognizes it is time to make some changes.

    Daffy Zone…..

My keen eye tells me that is a .45 with great grips, the safety is off, and has a hair trigger.
