Remember a lot of folk will buy a little gun then load it up with everything they can find that’ll bolt on and wind up with a bigger/heavier package than a standard service gun anyway
Pistols are like women's fashions , the styles ( or fads if you're cynical ) go thru repeating cycles .
Guns - Big > Small > Big > Small > Repeat . Except their can be Medium inbetween in both directions , plus the harder to catagorize phenomium of " small for caliber " and " large for caliber " .
[ l'll condense 40 yrs , to the most recent 10 -15 yrs ]
Actual Full Size pistols ( 5 inch -ish Bbl , think M92 , origonal size 1911 ) became passae .
The previous Compact became new normal for Full Size roles ( think G 19 , and all the other similar w/ 4 inch -ish Bbl ) for both Duty , and general purpose use by general public .
Mfgs then constantly shrink " CCW Pistols " ( broadly think G19 -ish > G26 -ish > P365 , with multiple incremental steps ). Because enough of the fad chasing buyers keep trading in 6 to 12 months later ,to get the New Hot Thing that is 0.1 inch shorter , and 0.2 oz lighter than what they already have .
Once Pocket Nines get essentially as small as physically possible , then buyers and / ir Mfg marketing departments realize : " Hey , this pocket rocket is hard to shoot well , and unpleasant if not painful to shoot . Wouldn't it be cool to have a gun just like my pocket rocket , Except ... Just a little bigger handle , with a cpl more rounds , and just a little more sight radius , and just a little more velocity ."
Then the Mfg keep introducing multiple , incremental sets of Larger . Until today ; the Jumbo Micro guns are back to being similar or larger than my P-225 .
