Set for Saturday, September 3, 2022 with retailers across the country, this program was developed to give those who enter the event a chance to win not only a Vaultek safe, but everything hidden inside it — including a mysterious new Springfield Armory pistol.

For those of you not familiar with the “Unlock Greatness” in-store event, Springfield Amory has sent a large number of Vaultek VS20i Biometric Smart Safes to retailers across the nation. The safes are packed with a brand new 5” 1911 DS Prodigy AOS 9mm pistol topped off with a HEX Dragonfly red dot optic, a SureFire X300U-A weaponlight and a BlackPoint Tactical mu OWB holster. These manufacturers generously agreed to partner with Springfield armory to provide these products for the program.
To get a chance to win one of these packages for yourself, visit unlock-greatness.com and enter. You simply input your name, e-mail address and zip code. When you do, the system locates the nearest participating retailers to you and allows you to select the one of your choice. On the Friday before the event, you will receive a reminder email from Springfield Armory with a check-in link for the event at the retailer the day of the event. When you check-in at the event on Saturday, you will receive your unique access code.

Remember that Vaultek safe I mentioned? The code you receive is your key to possibly being able to unlock the safe at your chosen location. Think of it as a digital-age version of the “sword in the stone” from the King Arthur story. One unique access code at each location will unlock that location’s safe, giving the holder of that code the right to claim the gun, the safe and all the gear (contingent upon the winner’s ability to legally acquire the pistol).
The Details
At the heart of the “Unlock Greatness” giveaway is the new 5” 9mm Prodigy pistol. This pistol takes the proven 1911 platform and enhances it with increased capacity through a double-stack magazine along with a range of other performance-driven features. The Prodigy is offered in both 5” and 4.25” versions, and comes with one 17+1 flush-fit magazine and one 20+1 extended magazine. An optional 26-round magazine is also available. Combine that with the AOS (Agency Optic System) plate system for attaching today’s most popular red dot optics, and you have a definite winner.
Topping off the 5” Prodigy in the safe is a HEX Dragonfly red dot optic. (To see a full review of that optic, click here.) The reflex sight features a 3.5 MOA red dot along with a precision-machined 6061 T6 hardcoat anodized aluminum body for rugged durability. A cover plate with a rear sight unit for the Prodigy is also included if you want to run the pistol with just its “irons.” MSRP of the Prodigy with the HEX Dragonfly is $1,699.
Housing the optic-equipped pistol is the Vaultek VS20i Biometric Smart Safe. This Bluetooth-capable safe features a biometric scanner that can store up to 20 fingerprints along with a backlit five-key numerical keypad that auto-illuminates through a proximity sensor. The interior is foam-lined to ensure your firearm and accessories are well-protected. MSRP is $299.99.
Packed in the safe with the pistol is a SureFire X300U-A weaponlight, giving you a high-quality LED light for the pistol’s Picatinny accessory rail. SureFire weaponlights have a hard-earned reputation for durability and performance, and the X300U-A is no exception. Featuring a precision TIR lens, the 1,000-lumen light is powered by two included 123A lithium batteries and weighs 4 oz. Integral ambidextrous momentary- and constant-on switches make operating the weaponlight intuitive and quick. MSRP is $299.
Also included inside the safe is a BlackPoint Tactical MU OWB (outside-the-waistband) holster. Featuring Kydex construction, the holster is designed to accept the 5” Prodigy with the SureFire X300U-A Weaponlight attached. The holster comes with a range of OWB belt attachment options, giving you the ability to configure it for carry or competition use. MSRP is $84.99.
